Antique porcelain tea and coffee service for 10 people An exquisite, ascetic, and naturally beautiful example of late 19th-century European porcelain art – a tea and coffee service for 10 people (antique porcelain tea service). Each piece of the service is highlighted by an elegant, plastic relief band or a wavy spiral decor, which gives the clear white porcelain a pleasant texture and play of light. The surface of the dishes is adorned with romantic, hand-painted meadow and garden flower motifs – delicate purple and pink asters or wild daisies, complemented by fine, grayish-green leaf and shoot elements. The edges of the dishes, the lines of the handles, and the decorative spire of the lid are accented with a fine, hand-drawn gold decorative band, creating a pleasant and discreet contrast with the thin porcelain. The cups are made in a classic, proportional volume, making them ideal for serving both delicate tea and aromatic coffee. Period of manufacture Late 19th century, around 1890–1900. Historicism period, y (Silesia). Manufacturer / Signature / Stamp The historical and prestigious green underglaze mark – an image of an eagle with spread wings and the letters “C.T.” (Carl Tielsch, Altwasser) below it – is preserved on the bases and inner sides of the feet of the dishes, as well as hand-painted decorator series numbers. This attests to the high quality and outstanding craftsmanship of the leading Silesian manufactory, which once competed with Berlin and Meissen porcelain. Rarity and significance Complete porcelain services for 10 people with a fully preserved original, undamaged number of cups and such delicate, natural motif decors are a great rarity in the antique tableware market. Such a service perfectly illustrates the aesthetics of late 19th-century European intellectual salons, where the lightness of natural motifs intertwined with the highest demands of table etiquette. Condition In excellent antique condition. The porcelain is clear and clean, without cracks, chips, or signs of restoration. The gold edges and the delicate floral color decor are preserved in excellent, visually good condition with minimal, naturally insignificant signs of age on some elements. Cultural-historical snapshot: The poet and painter Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš calmly looked into the garden door, where the past summer flowers slowly bowed their heads in the autumn wind. He reached out his hand, lightly touching the spiral waviness of the clear white porcelain and gently supporting the delicate, gilded handle of the dish. Tea was steaming on the table, and the purple meadow flower motifs and grayish leaves adorning the surface of the dishes reminded him of recent plein air summer moments when every nuance of color on the canvas seemed alive. The aroma of freshly picked heather tea and fresh country air flowed through the quiet house, and the clear brilliance of the white porcelain brought a warm and unhurried sense of peace into the room, transforming the afternoon moment before the final brushstrokes into a true and natural enjoyment of art.
