Elegant Porcelain Coffee and Tea Service Set for 7 People — Historicism Style

An exquisite and visually captivating antique porcelain ensemble, created as a distinctive testament to the traditions of European court tableware culture. This complete set draws attention with its unique double-sided artistic design. The front of the pieces features ornate, detailed multi-colored paintings in classical and romantic genre moods, depicting ladies and cupids or angels (cherubs) in idyllic natural scenes. In contrast, the other side of the pieces offers a completely different atmosphere – adorned with delicate, colorful bouquets of meadow and garden flowers. The snow-white, glossy porcelain with its embossed, multi-faceted shapes is elegantly framed and accented by a fine gold-colored rim, lending the service a regal and festive overall appearance.

Period of Manufacture Crafted in the early or mid-20th century, during the Historicism period, when European porcelain masters revived and interpreted with great reverence the most splendid courtly sentiments and pastoral art motifs of the 18th-century Rococo and Louis XV eras.

Manufacturer / Signature / Mark The elements of the service are made without a visible direct manufacturer’s mark on the base, where only small, gilded decorator’s numbers or master’s markings are found. This practice was characteristic of workshops that purchased high-quality white porcelain forms and carried out their artistic finishing and painting according to individual patterns, ensuring a top-class execution.

Rarity and Significance The greatest value of this set lies in its rare and excellent preservation for seven people, as well as the aforementioned double-sided design. The service includes a large coffee or tea pot with a sculptural spout and a fluted lid, an elegant and substantial sugar bowl with two handles, a classic milk jug, and seven cups with matching, wavy saucers. Each pair of cups features a different romantic motif, making the table setting narrative and dynamic.

Application This exquisite ensemble will be an excellent addition to a collector’s display cabinet, as well as serving as the main adornment for the dining room during festive tea or coffee rituals. It instantly imbues a space with the depth of a historical salon and serves as an excellent conversation starter when hosting guests.

Condition The service is in excellent visual and technical condition. The porcelain is completely intact—without cracks, hairlines, or chips on the edges. The hand-painted decals and vibrant colors have retained their clarity and expressiveness, and the gold trim along the edges and handles of the pieces is bright and well-preserved. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.

A Snapshot from the Historicism Era: Gustav Klimt momentarily sets aside his brush and steps back from his easel, observing as the morning light streams into his Vienna studio, illuminating the silk-covered table. Amidst sketches and palettes, a delicate golden shimmer gleams, enveloping the snow-white, embossed porcelain forms. Lifting a cup by its sculptural handle, he examines the smooth, noble surface where painted cherubs and ladies’ silhouettes in the room’s twilight blend with vibrant floral bouquets on the other side of the piece. Hot coffee steam gently rises above the wavy rims, mingling with the scent of oil paints and fresh canvas in the air. This small, elegant tea ritual before embarking on a new masterpiece brings the artist a true sense of cozy satisfaction and creative fulfillment.
