Chippendale style chairs with pierced backrest — Georgian revival, 19th-20th century

The price is for 1 chair (without armrests). 6 pieces available.

These elegant Chippendale style chairs without armrests continue the classic furniture of the 18th century — characteristic pierced, vase-shaped splat, gently arched cresting, and cabriole front legs with scrolled feet. The reddish-orange upholstery with a subtle golden check pattern and decorative brass nail trim lends the chairs a warm, classic ambiance. The chairs are ideal for creating a dining set.

Height 101 cm, width 43.5 cm, seat height 46 cm, seat depth 40 cm (each).

Period of Manufacture, Artistic Style, Era

The chairs are crafted in the Chippendale (Georgian) style, reflecting the design language introduced by the master Thomas Chippendale in the 18th century — pierced backrest and cabriole legs; their manufacture dates to the late 19th or early 20th century as a high-quality work in a historical style. The frames are made of mahogany or walnut with a warm patina. The profiled pierced splat of the backrest is skillfully sawn and smoothed, forming the characteristic sinuous silhouette of the Chippendale style.

A Georgian Era Snapshot: Samuel Johnson paused briefly in the semi-darkness of a Fleet Street London coffee house, still clutching a fresh proof sheet. Beyond the misted windows, the morning fog cloaked the cobblestones, and the air already hummed with the scent of coffee and burning wax. In the room’s half-light, lining the wall, stood several sinuous forms—the curved lines of pierced backrests that seemed almost to move in the gloom. His fingers brushed for a moment against the cool, smooth top edge of a backrest, and a new definition for his great dictionary began to form in his mind—precise, weighty, with that solid clarity of thought. In this simple yet noble form resided the entire spirit of reason and order of that age.

Craftsmanship & Period

The chairs are crafted in a European artisan workshop; there is no maker’s stamp or mark. The precision of the profiling and the harmony of the proportions suggest a fine furniture workshop.

Rarity & Significance

Coordinated Chippendale style chairs in larger numbers are rare and sought after — a complete set of six or more chairs allows for the creation of a harmonious dining group, which is increasingly difficult to find today. This set also has two matching armchairs (head of the table seats) available — see here, which allows for the creation of a complete, unified dining ensemble.

Application & Interior Use

The chairs are an elegant accent in a dining room, living room, or study. The warm reddish-brown wood and reddish fabric fit perfectly into classic , colonial, or eclectic modern interiors. The set is particularly well-suited for dining room styling and photography.

Gift & Personalization

An elegant choice for an admirer of style, an antique furniture collector, or a new home — chairs that are both functional furniture and a testament to an era.

Condition

The chairs are in good overall condition, with a lively, warm wood patina. The upholstery has been well-preserved, with minor signs of age and use on the surface and decorative brass nail trim along the edges. The wood shows normal age-related wear — individual minor scratches and scuffs consistent with the age of the items. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
