This luxurious “king’s” armchair (throne chair) is a work of the Neo-Renaissance (Renaissance Revival) style, made of dark stained oak, crafted in the second half of the 19th century. The high backrest is crowned by an expressive wood-carved heraldic shield (cartouche) between two confronting lions — both rendered with deep, plastic strokes by a skilled woodcarver. The armrests end in carved lion heads, while the backrest and seat are supported by turned, fluted columns and a massive H-shaped leg connection. The red velvet upholstery with gold nail trim gives the chair a solemn, almost throne-like character.
