Antique Louis XV Style Wooden Flower Table — Pedestal
Period of Manufacture The table was made in the late 19th century, during the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era) and Historicism periods. It was created under the influence of the Louis XV style, which dictated the fashion for organic, curved furniture forms and the flourishing of natural motifs in the interiors of European aristocratic palaces and salons.
Material and Design The piece is a masterful work of craftsmanship, executed from dense, heavy, and expressive walnut or exquisite fruitwood with a pleasant, silky sheen. The table’s round top has a distinctively profiled, raised edge and is adorned with two concentric lines of darker wood inlay (wood mosaic). Below the top’s frame are three sculptural, openwork wood carvings with Rococo-style foliage scrolls and central oval rosettes. The structure rests on three fluidly curved, fluted legs, the middle section of which is adorned with massive, turned wooden balls with a relief vine pattern. The lower parts of the legs connect to a three-pointed base plane, in the center of which rises a downward-facing, decorative urn-shaped baluster.
Application and Rarity This type of freestanding ladies’ salon furniture and wooden plant stand pedestal is a highly valued antique rarity today. Its compact dimensions and 75 cm height are ideally suited for displaying ornate flower vases, green plants, or valuable bronze and porcelain sculptures, instantly bringing historical substance to the room.
Condition The item is in excellent and fully authentic antique condition. The wooden structure is firm, stable, and without serious restoration or structural damage. The surface and lacquer show only a very slight, naturally patinated, century-old finish and minimal signs of use, which, in the eyes of a connoisseur, only enhance the item’s value and authenticity of origin.
A Belle Époque (Beautiful Era) Snapshot: Arthur Schnitzler (Arthur Schnitzler) stood quietly by the window, where the afternoon sunbeams illuminated the dark corners of a Viennese salon. In the corner of the room, next to a light-colored sofa, stood a slender, dark wood silhouette, its round surface catching the light entering the room and reflecting the shadows of garden trees. He did not touch the object, merely observing how the expressive twists and curves of the three wooden legs seemed to freeze in the semi-darkness beneath the openwork carved frame, as if guarding the delicate porcelain vase placed upon it. The smoothness of the surface and the warm tone of the material brought a cozy satisfaction to the room, and this quiet anticipation lingered long after the gentle afternoon glow had completely faded.
