Large size wooden flower stand in Neo-Renaissance style with wood carving
This impressive, almost meter-high flower stand (carved plant stand) is crafted in the expressive Neo-Renaissance (historicism) spirit. It is made of solid, dark hardwood (oak or walnut) with a warm, deep tone and a glossy, almost black-brown patina that highlights the deep wood carving.
The round top is supported by three graceful volute legs, richly carved with undulating acanthus foliage and scrolls; they connect in an openwork, carved central knot with a symmetrical foliage motif. The legs elegantly curve outwards and end in scroll-shaped feet. It is precisely this sculptural, transparent construction that gives the object both monumentality and lightness.
Period of creation. Crafted in the Neo-Renaissance (historicism) style, which became widespread in Europe in the 19th century, reviving the Renaissance tradition of figurative and foliage wood carving. The deep acanthus carving and volute legs are classic features of this style.
Manufacturer and workshop mark. There is no visible workshop mark or master’s signature on the stand. The execution — the deep, sharp acanthus carving and the precise openwork central knot — indicates the hand of a skilled woodcarver.
Rarity and significance. A fully carved, almost meter-high flower stand with a sculptural volute construction is considerably more impressive and rarer than simple stands. It is both a functional pedestal and a standalone work of wood carving art.
Application in interior, design, and photography. An ideal pedestal for a lush plant, a large vase, a sculpture, or a bust. An impressive accent in the living room, hall, library, winter garden, or salon. The dark wood carving is a grateful, texture-rich object for interior photography.
Gift and personalization. A sophisticated gift for a lover of antiques and wood art, a new homeowner, or someone who appreciates handwork. Placing the recipient’s favorite plant or item on the stand makes the gift personal.
Condition. Stable and intact, the wood carving is sharp and well-preserved, the wood tone is deep with a rich patina. Individual natural signs of use and surface patina are consistent with age.
Neo-Renaissance snapshot: Gabriele D’Annunzio emerged from his morning study and paused in the semi-darkness of his Italian villa. On the wall, on a tall carved stand, stood a lush flower whose leaves wound downwards along the acanthus carving — the wood warm and smooth under his fingers, the deep scrolls barely perceptible. The room smelled of jasmine and old leather bindings; the babbling of fountains came from the garden. He followed with his eyes the line of the volute legs down to the openwork central knot and felt that quiet joy with which a beautiful object enlivens the space it inhabits.
