This elegant Chinese pedestal (chinese pedestal) is an exquisite work of traditional Asian furniture craftsmanship, where dense, deep reddish-brown rosewood and masterful openwork carving combine in a slender, graceful form. The pedestal was once created to elevate and highlight a valuable object — a porcelain vase, a bonsai, or a stone sculpture — and its very silhouette is a silent expression of respect for what will stand upon it.

Craftsmanship & Period 20th century, in traditional Chinese style. Such stands (jardinière stand) are a classic form of Chinese furniture making that has changed little over centuries and is highly valued by both Asian and Western collectors.

Construction and Decor The pedestal rests on five elegantly curved, fluted legs that connect at the top with a lobed, petal-shaped central section and terminate in a scalloped, wavy plinth ring. The spaces between the legs are filled with openwork carving featuring stylized ruyi scrolls and vine motifs, carved using a pierced technique. The upper surface is lobed, petal-shaped, with a recessed round area for placing a vase or vessel. At the bottom, the pedestal rests on rounded feet.

Material Rosewood (hongmu / dense tropical hardwood) with a natural, deep polish that highlights the wood’s texture.

Condition Good age-appropriate condition. The wood has retained a warm, deep luster with beautiful natural texture. Minor signs of age are visible, characteristic of an authentic wooden item. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
