Dark blue glass decor with bronze details — Empire style

This expressive and moderately heavy glass decor is a wonderful example of the classic Empire style, combining deep colour saturation with aristocratic metal finishing. The body of the vessel is made of intense cobalt blue glass, whose smooth surface majestically captures and refracts light. Its base and lid are adorned with substantial, gilded bronze details. The lid handle is shaped like a dynamic, sculptural flame, a striking element of Classicist and Empire architecture, while the base stands out with delicate, symmetrical geometric and floral motifs, lending the object stability and grandeur.

Period of Manufacture This item was crafted in the mid-20th century, successfully continuing the traditions of the early 19th-century Empire style (Empire), characterized by monumentality, strict forms, and the use of gilded bronze appliques.

Manufacturer and Mark The item has no visible industrial marking, which is entirely characteristic of this type of decorative glass and cast bronze work, where the main emphasis is placed on material quality and the craftsman’s skill.

Rarity and Significance Large-sized cobalt glass vessels with such expressive, substantial bronze details are favoured by admirers of classical interiors. The contrast between dark glass and gilded metal is a classic value that always attracts attention.

Application This decor will serve perfectly as a standalone, sculptural element on a mantelpiece, a console in an entryway, or a substantial wooden desk in a library. Its form evokes an antique apothecary jar or a luxurious perfume bottle, bringing a mysterious and historical aura to the space.

Condition The item has been preserved in very good vintage condition. The glass body is intact and without cracks, while the bronze details have acquired a natural, light patina over time, which only enhances its authenticity. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.

From the Parisian Perfumer’s Atelier, Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain: The afternoon sun streams generously through the tall windows of the Parisian perfumery, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air and creating a warm atmosphere. The room is filled with the heavy scent of essential oils, dried lavender, and citrus peels. The renowned master perfumer, clad in a thick linen apron worn over his suit, steps back from his wooden workbench to appreciate the clarity of a freshly distilled essence.

His gaze falls upon a majestic, deep cobalt-coloured vessel on the top shelf, where a gilded flame-shaped spire catches the incoming light. He carefully lifts the heavy lid by its sculptural bronze handle, hearing the soft clink of metal against glass, to place inside a precious, secret recipe. The rich blue hue filters the sunlight, transforming it into a mysterious azure glow and providing the master with a moment of deep aesthetic satisfaction in this bustling laboratory.
