This impressive set of four Neo-Rococo armchairs (in the Venetian Baroque style) features a richly carved, ivory-colored painted and gilded wooden frame. Each tall armchair (fauteuil) is adorned with openwork rocaille carvings — volutes, shells (coquille), acanthus leaves, and carved roses at the crest and on the armrest ends. The flowing cabriole legs and curved body create a lush, theatrical silhouette. The dark blue chenille fabric with a large floral damask pattern in red and cream tones creates a rich contrast with the light, gilded wood. The chairs are comfortable, stable, and notably heavy, indicating a solid construction.
