Louis XVI style sofa set with armchairs — sofa and two armchairs, France, 19th-20th c.
The price is for the entire set (sofa + 2 armchairs — ensemble).
This elegant Louis XVI style salon set with armchairs ( armchairs) consists of three parts — a two-seater sofa (canapé) with an elongated medallion back and two matching armchairs with oval medallion backs and softly upholstered, open armrests. The cream-white patinated wooden frame with carved floral borders, foliage armrest supports, and fluted tapered legs contrasts with the warm, terracotta-toned floral patterned velvet upholstery, creating a bright, sophisticated salon atmosphere.
Sofa: length 118 cm, height 94 cm, seat height 42 cm, seat depth 50 cm.
Armchairs (2 pcs.): height 92.5 cm, width 58 cm, seat height 42 cm, seat depth 45 cm.
Period of creation, art style, era
The set is made in the (Neoclassical) style, reflecting the light, symmetrical elegance of late 18th-century court furniture — straight, fluted tapered legs, oval medallion backs, floral and laurel leaf borders; its creation dates to the late 19th or 20th century as a high-quality work in a historical style. The frames are made of patinated, cream-white lacquered hardwood. The back borders, foliage armrest brackets, and leg capital rosettes are genuine wood carving, executed finely and gracefully. The armchairs with open armrests add extra comfort and a representative character to the set.
Snapshot of the era: Jacques-Ange Gabriel paused for a moment in a bright hall of a Versailles pavilion, still holding a roll of drawings for the new Petit Trianon. Beyond the tall windows, the afternoon light flowed over the symmetrically trimmed garden parterres, and somewhere further off, a fountain splashed softly. In the half-shadow of the room, along the light wall, the contours of several graceful forms were visible — oval medallions and the sinuous lines of armrests, which seemed subject to the same calm geometry as his facades. His fingers briefly brushed over the cool, smooth armrest foliage, and he felt the same balance and clarity that permeated all his work — every line in its place, moderation as the highest luxury. In this harmonious interplay of forms resided all the restrained, rational beauty of that era.
Manufacturer and hallmark
The set was made in a European (most likely ) artisan workshop; there is no manufacturer’s stamp or mark. The quality of the carving and the harmony of proportions indicate a good salon furniture workshop.
Rarity and significance
Complete style salon sets with a sofa and two armchairs are particularly sought after — the open armrests make them a more representative and comfortable group than sets with standard chairs. Here, all three pieces retain a unified stylistic and coordinated upholstery. Another matching set is also available for this set — a sofa and two chairs without armrests.

Application in interior, design, and photography
The set is an exquisite accent for a living room, a lady’s boudoir, a salon, or a representative bedroom. The light, cream-white wood and warm terracotta velvet fit perfectly into a classic , Gustavian, or modern eclectic interior, bringing light and elegance. The set’s light palette is particularly advantageous for photography and interior styling.
Gift and personalization
An elegant gift for a lover of style, an antique furniture collector, or for a new home — a set that is both a usable piece of furniture and a testament to an era.
Condition
The set is in good overall condition, with a vibrant, light wood patina. The velvet upholstery has been well-preserved, with slight signs of age and use on the surface. The cream-white wood shows normal age-related wear — individual minor scratches and patina abrasions consistent with the age of the items. The condition of the items is fully reflected in the photographs.
