A snapshot from the Rococo era, Empress Elisabeth of Austria / Sisi:
In the favorite relaxation room of Gödöllő Castle, the soft morning light streamed through the sheer curtains, illuminating the wooden furnishings and a freshly arranged bouquet of flowers. The Empress, preparing for her daily ride and arranging her long, thick hair, paused for a moment before the wall to gaze into the clear glass.
Her slender fingers slowly glided over the curved line of the wooden frame and the masterfully carved, voluminous petals of the flower, feeling the natural warmth and plastic texture of the polished wood. This elegant silhouette of wooden furniture, inspired by natural motifs, lent the room a cozy, lively, and refined atmosphere, reflecting the play of morning sunbeams.
This magnificent and sculpturally crafted carved wooden wall mirror is an outstanding piece of furniture art, created in the dynamic and elegant Rococo style. The mirror frame is masterfully carved from wood, crowned with an expressive, open floral motif at the top, complemented by flowing rocaille lines, acanthus leaf scrolls, and delicate floral buds on the sides of the frame.
Craftsmanship & Period
The item was made in the mid-20th century, impeccably preserving the traditions of European wood carving and the proportions of the 18th-century Rococo style.
Maker / Signature / Mark
On the front of the frame, within the wooden finish, the master’s signature GRAUBY is clearly incised, indicating individual and high-quality craftsmanship.
