Painting “Flower Still Life” in an ornate light frame

A snapshot of Parisian elegance, Christian Dior: In the salon of his exquisite Parisian residence, where the air was filled with the subtle scent of “Miss Dior” perfume and fresh cut flowers, the legendary fashion designer Christian Dior would relax after finishing sketches for his latest collection. His gaze would linger on the wall, where a magnificent oil painting adorned an ornate, light-coloured frame – a rich bouquet of wildflowers and roses in a blue vase.

Dior was a passionate gardener, and flowers meant everything to him – both as inspiration for his famous “femme fleur” (woman-flower) silhouettes and as a source of peace for his soul. The thick brushstrokes and play of colours in the painting reminded him of his childhood gardens in Granville. This artwork was not just an interior decoration; it was a perpetually blooming source of inspiration for the master who wished to make women as beautiful as flowers.

Introduction This charming floral still life is an excellent example of classical painting, combining a romantic subject with elegant presentation. The painting exudes warmth, coziness, and timeless beauty that never goes out of style.

Design and Technique The work is executed in oil on canvas, using expressive, impasto (thick) brushstrokes and palette knife work, which give the flowers a sense of depth and vitality. At the centre of the composition is a lavish bouquet of roses, lupins, cornflowers, and poppies, placed in a dark blue, classic vase, which rests on an oriental wooden stand. The work is signed (the artist’s signature is visible in the lower left corner). Its frame adds particular value – an ornate, cream-white frame with delicate embossed Rococo-style floral and shell (rocaille) ornaments on the corners and edges.

Application The painting is medium-sized and convenient, lightweight, which significantly facilitates its hanging on the wall. It will become a wonderful and romantic accent in a bedroom, living room, or above a classic sideboard, bringing eternal spring into the room.

Condition Very good vintage condition. The canvas is intact, and the oil paints have retained their brightness and texture. The ornate light frame shows minor, natural signs of age (small cracks in the varnish or micro-abrasions on the relief), which resemble delicate shabby chic and only enhance the painting’s antique charm. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
