This impressive decorative wall head (carved wall mask) depicts a classic face of a woman or youth with flowing curly hair, a flowing ribbon-like drapery at the shoulders, and a characteristic string of pearls at the neck. The face is turned slightly to the side, with a calm and noble expression — a typical image of Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts decorative tradition, which adorned door portals, fireplaces, furniture tops, and wall panels.

Period of Manufacture and Art Style The head dates to the early 20th century, most likely France or Italy. The style is based on Neoclassicism and the Beaux-Arts decorative tradition — a reference to ancient masks (mascaron) that adorned architecture and interiors from the Renaissance to Historicism. The flow of curly hair, the idealized face, and the rhythm of the drapery indicate an academic school and a confident master’s hand.
