Period of manufacture The sconces were made in the late 19th century, during the flourishing period of Historicism and Belle Époque (Beautiful Era). They precisely replicate the ornate aesthetics of King Louis XV and the Rococo style, which experienced a new revival in European city residences during this era, maintaining a lively inclination towards asymmetry, the plasticity of natural forms, and the majestic shine of gold in salon wall decorations.

Material and design The items are solid, heavy, and high-quality applied art castings of bronze, covered with a noble, fiery gilding. Each sconce has a distinctive, architectural wall plate, adorned at the top with a relief Rococo shell or sea crown (rocaille) motif, and at the bottom — with strict, cascading acanthus leaf scrolls and a pinecone bud finial. Two flowing, elegantly curved branch arms, decorated with longitudinal fluting, extend symmetrically from the central axis. The branches end with wide, flower calyx-like drip pans and fluted candle sockets. The authentic, massive construction with original metal crossbars and mounting holes, allowing for stable wall attachment, has been preserved on the back.

Application and condition Such a harmonious set of antique bronze wall sconces pair is an excellent interior element for furnishing a classic salon, dining room, or boudoir, especially flanking a large mirror, painting, or above a console table. They can be used both for their direct purpose with real candles to create a warm atmosphere, and easily electrified for modern lighting. The sconces are in excellent antique condition. The bronze frames and arms are completely rigid, stable, without cracks or breaks. The gilded surface retains a pleasant, warm, and noble sheen with a natural age patina in the relief recesses, highlighting every detail.
