These luxurious wall lamps embody the revival of Louis XV style — Rococo — decorative arts during the Belle Époque, which flourished in France from 1871 to 1914. In the second half of the 19th century, the Parisian bourgeoisie and aristocracy enthusiastically returned to the courtly styles of the 18th century — the so-called style Louis XV revival became the dominant fashion in private residences, hôtels particuliers, and elegant apartments along the Champs-Élysées and Faubourg Saint-Germain.

The wall plate of each lamp is asymmetrically curved in a rocaille form — its characteristic shell-like, wavy ornamentation, which in the Rococo style symbolizes the free rhythm of nature rather than architectural discipline. From the plate extend girandole-type arms with a central stem and four curved branches, holding candle holders with acanthus leaf bobèche. The main visual effect — crystal pendants: octagonal pendeloques and lancet-shaped pointes de diamant pendants, forming a shimmering curtain at each candle and the central stem. When lit, each crystal refracts the light into a spectrum — arc-en-ciel, a rainbow — and adorns the walls and ceiling with sparkling reflections.

Belle Époque snapshot: In January 1894, Claude Monet arrived in Paris from Giverny to meet his dealer Paul Durand-Ruel — in the evening, they sat at a table in the Faubourg, where lamps with crystal pendants cast rainbow spots on the white walls, and Monet remained silent for a long time, then slowly pushed his glass aside and said, “That’s exactly the light I need…”

Manufacturer and Mark

There is no visible manufacturer’s mark. The cast backplate with an iron mounting rail indicates the quality of industrial production characteristic of Parisian bronze foundries during the Belle Époque, when style Louis XV lamps were produced on a larger scale while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship. The quality of the crystals — sharp facets, good transparency — corresponds to Bohemian or crystal manufacturers.

Rarity and Significance

A complete pair of girandole-type bras de lumière with a preserved crystal garniture — without significant loss of pendants — is a rarity. The integrity of the crystal set is the main factor of value in this category: lamps often come to market with partially replaced or supplemented crystal garnitures, which reduces authenticity. In this case, the garniture appears original and consistent.

Application in Interior Design and Photography

Crystal girandole lamps create a unique lighting atmosphere that no modern lighting can replicate — the shimmering reflections on the walls are alive, dynamic, reacting to every movement of air. In the living room, dining room, or bedroom next to mirrors — the effect is magical. For designers — tools to create a scenography from an ordinary space. For photographers — when shooting by the lit lamps, the crystals create an inimitable bokeh effect. The depth of this pair of lamps, 38 cm, makes it a visually rich, three-dimensional object.

Gift Idea

Crystal lamps are a classic symbol of elegance — an excellent gift for a woman with refined taste, a young couple in their first home, or an interior designer as a source of inspiration.

Condition

Both lamps are in good condition. Bronze casting is intact, rocaille plate details are preserved. Crystal garniture is largely complete — individual pendant losses may be present, as visible in the photographs. Gilding with natural patina. Candle sleeve covers are worn — replacement recommended. Rear iron mounting elements show oxidation — normal for age. Wiring should be checked by a certified electrician before use. The condition of the items is fully reflected in the photographs.
