Silver Plated Tea and Coffee Service with Tray — Baroque Style

This highly magnificent and monumental antique silver plated tea service is a premier example of late 19th-century European luxury metalwork, rendered in the opulent Baroque style. The comprehensive table service comprises five distinct pieces: a tall coffee pot, a matching teapot, a covered sugar bowl, a milk creamer, and a large, heavy twin-handled serving tray. Each vessel is raised upon four scrolled legs adorned with cast acanthus leaves and volutes. The structural bodies of this antique silver plated tea service feature voluptuous, bulbous proportions complemented by heavily chased handles and spouts.

Refined touches include stylized flower bud finials atop the lids and thin ivory or bone heat-insulating rings integrated into the handles to protect user’s fingers during service. During the late Tsarist era, a silver-plated service of this exceptional caliber was a signature status symbol among the high society of Imperial Russia, gracing the dining rooms of St. Petersburg and affluent Baltic trading ports. Preserved in excellent antique condition with its silver layer remaining bright and lustrous, this antique silver plated tea service stands as an exceptional discovery for collectors of historic table appointments. The item’s condition is fully reflected in the photographs.

Baroque era snapshot: The acclaimed writer Anton Chekhov (Anton Chekhov) sits late at night in the study of a quiet Riga residence, where a newly served silver-plated tea service gleams softly in the dim light. The room is still, save for the rhythmic scratching of his pen and the muffled sounds of the city outside. His fingers close around the heavy, ornate handle of the teapot, noting the cool texture of the bone insulating rings and admiring the scrolled legs that give the vessel its grand posture. A rich aroma rises from the warm spout, and the flickering candlelight reflects flawlessly across the polished silver surface. This European masterwork brings a serene, aristocratic comfort into the author’s working space, allowing him a brief moment of repose before returning to the complex fates of his literary characters.
