Description
Dimensions: The set includes: coffee pot, tea pot, sugar bowl, milk jug, and a large two-handled serving tray. Antique silver-plated tea and coffee set with tray An artistically valuable, solid, and exceptionally luxurious late 19th-century European table culture masterpiece — a complete five-piece tea and coffee set on a large, matching two-handled tray (antique silver plated tea coffee set). Each vessel is made of high-quality base metal (alpaca or brass) and coated with a thick, noble layer of silver. The design of the set is dominated by the plastic forms and details of the Historicism and Neoclassical styles. The bodies of both pots are crowned with high arched handles made of dark, ebonized wood, ensuring comfortable use and thermal insulation. The special value of this set is its sculptural finish: the spouts of the pots are shaped in the expressive form of a dragon or mythical beast head, while the bases of all four vessels are supported by three elegant, curved legs with beast paw-shaped feet and ornate rocaille and palm motif attachments to the body. The edges of the vessels and tray are accented with a rhythmic, delicate band of fluting. Period of manufacture Late 19th century, approximately 1890–1900. Historicism period, y or France. Manufacturer / signature / hallmark Fine manufacturer’s stamps and hallmarks (crown, crescent moon, and master’s initials) are embedded on the undersides of the vessels and legs, attesting to the handiwork and excellent silver-plating quality of leading or silverware manufactories. Rarity and significance Complete five-piece silver-plated sets that have retained all original wooden parts, finial-shaped lid knobs, and the original, large two-handled tray are a great and sought-after rarity in the antique tableware market. The unique beast head spouts and the cohesive, heritage aesthetic enhance the item’s value. Application The set is fully functional and ready for representative tea or coffee service at festive occasions. It will serve as an excellent, eye-catching accent on a dining table, sideboard, or serving cart in a classic and eclectic interior. Condition In excellent antique condition. All vessels and the tray are firm, stable, and free of deformations or deep scratches. The silver plating has retained a noble, uneven historical patina and a soft sheen, which only highlights the exquisite relief structure. The wooden handles and hinges are firm and fully functional. Cultural history snapshot: Composer Alfreds Kalniņš sat at his desk in the late hours of the night, quietly and calmly humming a melody of a newly born opera. He rhythmically tapped the ink-covered tip of his quill against the inkwell’s edge, looking at the freshly written score where the lines of notes were slowly acquiring their firm and solemn character. Nearby, in the warm light of the lamp, stood the recently acquired, massive silver-plated tea set — its mirror-smooth surface and dragon head-shaped spouts caught the reflections of the flame, bringing an atmosphere of solidity and aristocratic peace into the room. The composer poured a cup of tea, and this noble vessel, where fine silver met the warmth of the dark wood handle, instantly transformed a simple working night moment before writing the first chords into a complete and solemn ritual of beauty.
