The afternoon light slides over the tall windows of a Parisian townhouse salon, playing on the gilded wall frames and illuminating the soft silk curtains. Along the wall frame rests a heavy, gleaming casting, whose winding, curved legs seem to grow naturally from the floor, bearing an unusual, greenish stone slab above them. Its translucent surface catches every ray of light, transforming it into a yellowish-green horizon reminiscent of tranquil pond water in a spring garden. The fingers of the famous hostess’s daughter, adorned with delicate pearls, lightly glide over this smooth, cool surface before an ivory fan is placed upon it.
The sweet scent of freshly brewed tea and fresh jasmine flowers fills the room, intertwined with the distant sound of carriage wheels on the cobblestones. Four stately, cast female faces with peaceful and noble gazes look into the room from the corners of the furniture, becoming silent and untouched guardians of this luxurious house. Their bronze curls and leaf applications seem to merge with the overall rhythm of the space, where every curve speaks of endless elegance. The sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, leaving deep, dark shadows in the openwork metal holes, which hold the immortal breath of aristocratic design.
Period of manufacture The furniture was made in the mid-20th century in France or Belgium, in the aesthetic of Louis XV style, precisely and with high artistic sophistication repeating the classical 18th-century Rococo forms and precious metal casting traditions.
Manufacturer / signature / stamp There is no direct manufacturer’s stamp on the console body, but the plasticity of the casting, the complex assembly of details, and the high-quality processing of the onyx slab clearly indicate the work of a specialized and high-level European art bronze foundry, oriented towards historical style furniture design for luxury interiors.
Rarity and significance The main value of the console is its expressive and sculptural bronze frame. The legs at the top transition into detailed caryatid figures — classical female bust figures with exquisite facial expressions and hairstyles. The legs at the bottom end with slender, curved bases, connected by an elegant, wavy bronze stretcher. The front area or openwork frieze is decorated with a large Rococo style shell (rocaille) and leaf scroll motifs. These are perfectly complemented by the original, rectangular onyx top with a natural greenish and yellowish striped pattern.
