A snapshot of the birth of Aestheticism, Oscar Wilde: Raindrops softly tapped against the tall windows of his Tite Street drawing-room, blurring the gas lamps outside into hazy pools of light. He sat in his velvet armchair, a half-finished manuscript resting on his lap, his gaze fixed upon the brilliant, emerald green crystal on the mahogany table. Deep star and diamond cuts etched into the heavy, green glass caught the firelight from the hearth, shattering the illumination into a thousand sparkling shards.

Within this deep, translucent green, he saw more than exquisite craftsmanship – he saw the very essence of Aestheticism, which he championed so fervently. The cold, heavy glass held a pulsating life, a flawless and immutable beauty that defied the grey reality beyond the window. It was this unadorned, radiant elegance that he sought to weave into every play and paradox.

Green Crystal Vase in Classic Style

This expressive green crystal vase is a masterpiece of classic glass artistry. Crafted using the renowned “cut-to-clear” or double-layer glass technique, where the top emerald green layer is expertly cut away to reveal the clear crystal beneath. The vase’s design features deep, traditional star, fan, and diamond cuts, creating a rich and dynamic texture. Its vibrant colour and geometric precision ensure that every ray of light is captured and reflected, casting a lively sparkle throughout the room.

Craftsmanship & Period This piece was crafted in the second half of the 20th century, impeccably preserving and reflecting the traditions and aesthetics of classic glass cutting.

Rarity & Significance While not an original 19th-century historical piece, its high-quality execution and intricate two-colour cutting technique make it an exceptional decorative art object. The emerald green hue is one of the most sought-after and classic tones in Bohemian-style crystalware, lending an aristocratic and luxurious ambiance to any space.

Application & Interior Use Due to its medium size and stable base, this vase is ideal for medium-length floral arrangements – from spring tulips to classic roses. It will serve as a striking and captivating accent on a dining table, mantelpiece, or open shelf.

Condition The vase is in very good condition. The crystal retains its clarity and the sharpness of its cuts, with no significant damage, allowing light to play freely across its facets. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
