🏛️ PERIOD, ART STYLE, HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Made approximately in the second half of the 19th century to the early 20th century, between 1870 and 1910. The style combines Baroque and Rococo Revival (néo-baroque / néo-rococo) elements, which were enormously popular across European high society during the decorative arts of the Napoleon III and Wilhelm II eras. Key stylistic features include: a curved, dynamic shaft with acanthus and scroll motifs; flame-shaped candle cups; generously curved arms with acanthus leaf terminal ornament; a ribbed, lobed lower shaft (côtes de melon); and a multi-tiered base with shell and acanthus decoration. Candelabras of this type adorned ballroom tables, altars, mantelpieces, and banquet halls throughout Europe.

⚜️ MAKER AND FOUNDRY MARKS

The base undersides visible in the photographs show a clean surface without a clearly legible maker’s mark. The high quality, symmetry, and finely detailed casting of both candelabras point to a professional Italian, , or Belgian bronze foundry. Both pieces are identical and clearly originate from the same production series and the same foundry. Italian bronze manufacturers (fonderie italiane) produced large quantities of high-quality Baroque-style candelabras for export throughout Europe during the second half of the 19th century.

💎 RARITY AND SIGNIFICANCE

A matched, identical pair of candelabras is considerably rarer and more valuable than individual pieces — in the antique market, pairs are typically valued 1.5 to 2 times higher than single examples. A bronze candelabra pair of this size and quality in the Baroque style is a consistently sought-after object among collectors and interior designers. The red wax inserts in the candle cups indicate the candelabras were in regular active use, confirming their practical value. Comparable pairs in high-end European antique markets sell for 400–900 EUR.

🕯️ APPLICATION IN INTERIOR DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY

A matched pair of candelabras is an outstanding symmetrical table decoration solution — elegantly arranged for a banquet, romantic dinner, or wedding table setting. On a mantelpiece, they create a classic symmetrical composition used equally in contemporary eclectic and neo-Baroque interiors. In wedding, fashion, and lifestyle photography, a golden bronze pair with live candle flames is an indispensable prop. In ecclesiastical and chapel settings, candelabras of this type have traditionally been used for altar decoration. In film and theatre set design, they are a universal prop across multiple historical periods.

🔍 CONDITION

Both candelabras are in good condition, consistent with age. The bronze retains a bright, even golden patina with minimal tonal variation — indicating good storage conditions. Red wax inserts are present in the candle cups of both pieces. The arms are firmly attached and the structures are solid. The mutual symmetry and identical detailing of both pieces confirms that the pair is fully intact in its original composition. No significant damage, breaks, or restoration work has been identified.

The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
