Description

A pair of magnificent antique bronze wall sconces — Rococo style (bronze wall sconces)
Artistic grace and the atmosphere of late 19th-century salons meet in this pair of small antique bronze wall sconces (bra). The design of the branches and base represents a magnificent Rococo style retrospection — each luminaire is crafted as a plastic, flowing casting of acanthus leaves, natural curls, and delicate floral motifs. The two symmetrically placed branches in each lamp end with fluted socket cups, originally designed for historical gas lighting or candles. The lamps are made of high-quality, heavy bronze alloy, processed using traditional techniques, achieving an expressive interplay of depth, relief, and shadows, which illuminates especially beautifully in the evening hours.
Manufacturing period last quarter of the 19th century, approximately 1880–1895. This was a time when magnificent eclecticism reigned in the architecture and interior design of the major cities of Europe and the Baltics, and luminaires of this type were an integral part of parade halls and private salons.
Manufacturer / signature / stamp The execution of the wall lamps and the technique of the rear base fastenings indicate the work of leading Western European (most likely or ) bronze casting manufactories. Leading architects and wholesalers gladly ordered luminaires of this style and scale from catalogs to furnish public buildings and the homes of wealthy citizens in Riga and Libau.
Rarity and significance The greatest value of the luminaires is their preservation precisely as a pair and in impeccable proportions. Small, finely crafted wall bras with such detailed and undamaged ornamentation are relatively rare. Special value is given to them by their historical construction — they are witnesses of the early gas lighting era, which were later skillfully adapted for electricity as technology developed.
Application This pair of wall lamps will become an exquisite and atmospheric accent in a hallway, on either side of a mirror in a living room, in a dining room above a console, or in a bedroom above the headboard. Their compact size allows the pair of lamps to be easily integrated into both historical and more modern, eclectic interiors, bringing a noble golden glow to the space.
Condition The pair of lamps is in excellent antique condition. The bronze bodies are completely stable, without breaks or metal defects. The surface has retained its authentic, noble patina of time and traces of gilding, which have not been artificially polished, preserving the historical charm of the item. The lamps are electrified and ready for immediate installation and use. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
