Small brass table with green marble in Neoclassical style

A Neoclassical moment, Marcel Proust: The air of the Parisian apartment was filled with the scent of dried linden blossoms and old velvet curtains. The writer, wrapped in a thick wool coat, despite the spring outside the shutters, sat in his deep armchair, watching the dust motes dance in a narrow sunbeam.

He reached out towards the corner of the room to place his half-finished cup of tea, and his fingers brushed against the cool, smooth surface of the veined, green stone. Beneath it, the solid, fluted metal column, resting on sturdy lion’s paws, provided a secure and unwavering support for his fragile world of memories, quietly guarding the porcelain cup while his mind wandered in search of lost time.

Craftsmanship & Period This exquisite table was crafted in the second half of the 20th century, inspired by the traditions of 19th-century Neoclassicism (Neoclassicism) and Empire styles, characterized by symmetry, elements of ancient architecture, and monumentality even in small objects.

Maker / Signature / Mark The work of an unknown European metal caster. The table demonstrates excellent craftsmanship, combining a substantial, intricately cast brass (or bronzed metal) base with high-quality natural marble.

Rarity & Significance Classic design guéridons (small pedestal tables) with a single central column and marble top are highly valued for their practicality and aesthetic appeal. This model stands out with its robust, fluted (fluted) central column adorned with classic floral and leaf garlands. The base rests on four expressive lion’s paws, a typical symbol of power and stability in ancient art. The round, dark green marble top (similar to Verde Alpi marble) is set within an ornate, relief metal frame, creating a beautiful and rich contrast with the gilded metal.

Application & Interior Use Thanks to its small, compact dimensions, this table is extremely versatile. It would serve perfectly as a coffee or tea table next to an armchair, as an elegant pedestal for a houseplant, or as a base for a small sculpture and a table lamp, bringing a classic and finished look to any space.

Condition The table is in very good vintage condition. The green marble top is intact, smooth, and retains its natural veining pattern without significant defects. The brass base has developed a light, natural patina of age, which only enhances the item’s historical and antique charm. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
