Small black wooden table with a metal top in the Moorish style

A Moorish Revival snapshot, Mata Hari (Margaretha Zelle): The air of the Folies Bergère dressing room was thick with the scent of jasmine, powder, and the nervous energy before an imminent performance. The famous dancer sat at her brightly lit mirror, arranging heavy, jeweled bracelets as the sound of the orchestra tuning drifted through the thin walls.

She reached out, her fingertips brushing against the cool, intricately worked metal surface beside her, where her silver hand mirror lay. The dark, carved wood edge of the small stand and its gleaming, ornate top seemed to echo the exotic and mysterious allure of the stage she was about to conquer, quietly holding her secrets in the dim corner.

Craftsmanship & Period This table was crafted in the second half of the 20th century, inspired by late 19th and early 20th-century Orientalism and Moorish Revival trends.

Maker / Signature / Mark The work of an unknown master. The top is adorned with rich arabesque and floral motifs characteristic of Near Eastern and North African craftsmanship, while the wooden base displays a fusion of classic European joinery forms with exotic elements.

Rarity & Significance Such tables historically served as exotic interior accents in European homes, bringing a bohemian elegance to the space. Its particular value is enhanced by the detailed metal relief and the luxurious brass-tone border, which provides a striking contrast to the black-painted wood.

Application & Interior Use Due to its compact size and stable tripod base, this piece is ideal as a coffee or tea table. It can also serve perfectly as a decorative pedestal for a houseplant or lamp in an eclectic interior.

Condition The table is in good, used condition with natural signs of age and use – minor paint abrasions on the wooden parts and slight oxidation on the metal surface, which only adds to its authentic vintage charm. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
