6 antique Italian Murano glass ruby red goblets (Tre Fuochi)
This dazzling set of six medium-sized goblets is an exquisite and elegant masterpiece of Italian Murano glass art. Each glass is crafted from vibrant ruby red glass, complemented by a fully gilded, solid stem and base. The glass goblet part features a rich, frosted 24-carat gold band, delicately hand-painted with romantic floral motifs in enamel (blue, white, and green) and a classic gold scroll. This set is intended for festive occasions, bringing true royal luxury to any table setting.
Murano History, Tradition, and Rarity in the Antique World
The history of Venetian glassblowing is legendary, dating back to the 13th century. To protect the city from fires and, most importantly, to safeguard its unique glassmaking recipes from European competitors, the Venetian Republic ordered all glass masters to relocate to the island of Murano in 1291. For centuries, these artisans honed their skills, creating absolute luxury for European aristocracy.
These goblets are made using the famous and highly labor-intensive “Tre Fuochi” (Three Fires) technique. It requires each piece to be fired three times in the kiln: the first time to blow the glass shape, then at very high temperature to apply the heavy gilding, and finally to fuse the enamel floral details.
In the antique world and among collectors, authentic Tre Fuochi glass is highly valued precisely because of the immense amount of handwork involved—no two pieces are ever exactly identical. Sets that are complete and intact (e.g., a 6-piece set) are particularly rare and highly sought after in the market. Over time, fragile glass pieces are often broken or lost; finding a full, matched set in perfect condition is a great fortune, significantly increasing its investment and collector value.
Condition
The set is in excellent antique condition, with no damage (no chips or cracks). The gilding on all six pieces—both on the stems and the goblets—has retained its original brilliance, and the enamel painting is flawless. The overall condition and delicate hand-painted details are clearly visible in the accompanying photographs.
