Height 48.5cm Italian Murano glass decanter in ruby red with floral motifs (Tre Fuochi)
This breathtaking, medium-sized decanter (or ewer) is a top-tier masterpiece of Venetian glass art. Crafted from vibrant ruby red glass, it stands out with its exceptionally opulent decoration. The neck of the decanter and the elegantly curved, ribbed handle are covered in thick, smooth gilding. The body features a luxurious gold cartouche, meticulously hand-painted with romantic enamel flowers in shades of blue, pink, and white. The design is completed by its original glass stopper with a spiraled gold finial and an elegant, ornately cast brass color base, which gives the piece added stability and an aristocratic posture. Murano History, Traditions, and Rarity in the Antique World
The history of Venetian glassblowing is legendary, dating back to the 13th century. To protect the city from fires and, most importantly, to keep their unique glassmaking recipes a strictly guarded secret from the rest of Europe, the Venetian Republic ordered all master glassblowers to relocate to the island of Murano in 1291. For centuries, these artisans continued to hone their skills, creating absolute luxury for royal courts and the aristocracy. Craftsmanship & Period
This decanter is crafted using the famous and highly labor-intensive “Tre Fuochi” (Three Fires) technique. The process requires the item to be fired in a kiln three separate times: to blow the glass shape, to affix the heavy gilding at very high temperatures, and finally, to fuse the delicate enamel flowers. Rarity & Significance
In the antique world and among collectors, such ornate, complexly shaped Murano pieces are extremely sought after and rare. What adds particular value to this specimen is the presence of its original, delicate glass stopper, which is most often lost or broken over time. Furthermore, the combination with the finely crafted metal base makes this decanter an unusual and exceptionally valuable find, serving both as a luxurious interior statement piece and a secure investment. Application & Interior Use
This Italian Murano glass ruby red decanter is a statement piece that will elevate any interior. Its luxurious design and historical significance make it ideal for display in a prominent location, such as a sideboard, mantelpiece, or display cabinet. Condition
The decanter is in excellent antique condition. The rich gilding, enamel painting, and ruby red glass have retained their original brilliant luster with no damage. The original glass stopper is also fully intact. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
