Description
Antique Art Nouveau / Belle Époque Porcelain Jewelry Casket “Garden Roses” – c. 1900 (With Relief “RS” Monogram)
- Item: An exceptionally delicate and highly prestigious antique European porcelain trinket/jewelry box of organic form.
- Design Feature: Crafted in pure porcelain without any metal mounts, rims, or hinges, featuring an elegant, perfectly fitting lift-off lid. The design captures the sophisticated transition between the late Belle Époque and the early Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) movements, defined by flowing, organic lines and soft pastel gradients.
- Period: Belle Époque / Art Nouveau transitional period, circa 1890–1910.
- Markings & Provenance: The base is unmarked by standard printed stamps and lacks any country-of-origin marks (no “France” stamps). Instead, it features an authentic, molded-in-relief (raised) monogram cast directly into the porcelain body. It is stylized in the iconic, fluid Art Nouveau “whiplash” line, depicting the letters “RS”. This type of relief marking is characteristic of elite or Bohemian manufacturers of the period (such as Reinhold Schlegelmilch / R.S. Prussia or similar high-end studios) famed for producing complex, thin-walled molded floral wares.
- Dimensions:
- Height: 4 cm
- Width: 12.5 cm x 9.5 cm
- Artistry & Aesthetics:
- The Form: Sculpted with beautiful, fluid, and wavy high-relief scroll lines that give the casket an elegant shell-like or organic botanical appearance.
- The Painting: Decorated with delicate romantic pink garden roses and foliage over a soft, blended gradient background shifting from pale pink to warm cream and light green.
- Gold Highlights: The molded scrolls and scalloped rims are highlighted with hand-applied, polished gold-gilt accents and fine lines.
- Condition: Excellent antique condition. Both the porcelain body and the lift-off lid are structurally flawless; free of chips, cracks, hairline fractures, or restorations. The colors and gold-gilt details remain brilliantly bright and crisp.
