This bronze guéridon is an object that exists only because someone once decided that beauty is a sufficient reason. Four cabriole legs with acanthus leaf and floral ornament, a rococo entretoise at the bottom connecting the legs with a volute member, and at the top — a mirror surface with a curved serpentine contour in a bronze frame. Light never stands still on this table.

Belle Époque snapshot: Claude Monet’s wife Alice Monet had placed a single white lilac branch on it. Nothing more. The morning in Giverny was foggy, and the scent of wet grass and roses came from the garden through the window. The bronze reflected in the bluish evening twilight. One of the children asked why the mirror was on the table, not on the wall. She did not answer — because the answer was obvious: to see the ceiling.

Bronze casting and details. The entire frame — fine bronze casting with high relief precision. At the top of the legs — pinecone and acanthus leaf motifs; horizontal connections between the legs — rococo volute members with a floral rosette in the center. The upper bronze band around the mirror surface — a delicate egg-and-dart (oves et dards) ornament, characteristic of the Louis XVI and Louis XV transition period. The ends of the legs — typical pied de biche point.

Mirror surface. Serpentine contour mirror with a beveled edge — a slight greenish reflection indicates older glass. The surface functions doubly: both as a reflector and as a decorative element.

Rarity and significance. A fully bronze guéridon with a mirror surface of this size and casting quality is increasingly rare on the market. Lightweight, yet visually dominant.
