Exquisite antique cobalt blue porcelain bowl with bronze — Louis XVI style (antique cobalt blue centerpiece bowl)

This small, yet unusually exquisite antique porcelain bowl (antique centerpiece bowl) is a classic masterpiece of late 19th-century decorative art. The visual identity of the bowl is defined by the deep and rich shade characteristic of the Sèvres workshops (bleu de Sèvres), which demonstrates impeccable depth and shine of the glaze in the photographs. The bowl is formed on a monumental, extended foot, giving the small object a distinct stability and solemnity.

Period of Manufacture Made in France, in the late 19th century (approximately 1880–1890), during the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), when masters experienced another renaissance of classical heritage.

Manufacturer / Signature / Stamp As seen in the close-up photographs of the base and interior, the bowl lacks direct manufacturer signatures, which is characteristic of the specialized workshops of the Paris and Sèvres regions of that time, which purchased high-quality porcelain blanks and supplemented them with exclusive bronze castings on order. The mounting rim and the processing of the bronze disc on the base fully confirm the classic technology of 19th-century bronze casters.

Rarity and Significance The main value of the bowl lies in the proportions of its execution and the contrast of materials. The deep enamel provides an ideal background for the matte and polished bronze. The neoclassical decorative elements characteristic of the Louis XVI style — garlands of laurel leaves and branches, elegantly tied in the middle with a ribbon (knot), and rosettes on the sides — are cast with the highest jewelry precision (see images IMG_6899.jpeg and IMG_6912.jpeg).

Application Thanks to its compact and exquisite size, this bowl is ideal for placement in the most visible areas of the interior — on a small boudoir table, a representative mantelpiece, or as a central accent on a neoclassical console. It will serve perfectly as a standalone decorative art object or as a luxurious bowl for floral arrangements and small items.

Condition The bowl has been preserved in excellent historical condition. The porcelain has no cracks, nor does the enamel coating, and the internal white glaze is clean. The gilded bronze fittings (ormolu) have retained their noble shine with a natural, light patina of time in the deeper relief areas. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.

Belle Époque Snapshot: Albert Edelfelt stood by the window in his Paris studio, watching the autumn sun set over the bridges of the Seine. His gaze swept over the just-finished portrait and stopped at the table, where a small but unusually deep treasure gleamed in the light. The dark cobalt surface seemed to absorb all the twilight blue of Paris, while the finely cast bronze laurel branches caught the last rays of the sun like a golden frame around the night sky. This quiet, noble radiance among colors and canvases brought the breath of history into the room, which could only be felt, not described.
