Antique large copper pot — Historicism style (antique large copper pot) (6220)

This impressive, large-sized, and distinctly heavy antique copper pot (antique large copper pot) is an outstanding example of late 19th-century Belgian metalworking and culinary heritage. The pot stands out with its pronounced solidity, thick hammered copper walls, and monumental form, indicative of its professional or high-end household origin. Two sturdy, forged iron handles are attached to the sides of the vessel with massive copper rivets, providing the necessary strength for moving such a heavy item and lending it a rough yet refined aesthetic.

Craftsmanship & Period Made in Belgium, Antwerp, in the late 19th century (approximately 1880–1890), during the late Historicism era.

Maker / Signature / Mark The authentic manufacturer’s mark Merfurth Anvers is clearly visible and excellently preserved on the upper part of the pot. This Antwerp workshop was widely known for crafting professional copper and brassware of the highest quality, whose products were characterized by exceptional durability and superb hammering quality.

Rarity & Significance The main value of this pot lies in its exceptional degree of authenticity and large size. Unlike many decorative copper items, this is a real, heavy, and functional piece of craftsmanship. The surface of the pot shows historical signs of use and soldering, which give it a unique character and tell the story of its long life.

Application & Interior Use In a modern interior, this pot serves as an outstanding, eye-catching design accent. It can be used as an exclusive log basket by the fireplace, as a decorative planter for large houseplants, or as a standalone element in the kitchen of a country house, historic inn, or restaurant. It pairs wonderfully with the textures of natural wood and exposed brick walls.

Condition The pot is in excellent historical condition with a noble, natural copper patina and minor surface scratches that only enhance its antique charm. The interior has been historically tinned to protect the metal. The iron handles are firm and stable. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.

Belle Époque snapshot: Jozef Israëls (Jozef Israëls) stood in the spacious kitchen of a Flemish home, where the late afternoon light streamed through the low window, illuminating the heavy ceiling beams. His gaze fell upon the hearth, where a massive, dark, and warmly rosy silhouette gleamed dully on the stove. The thick copper surface reflected the muted dance of the flames, and the heavy iron handles seemed peaceful, carrying within them the weight of generations of work and coziness. This deep, cool metallic sheen and the scent of history pervading the kitchen brought a profound, inexpressible satisfaction and peace to the room.
