Antique silver-plated cachepot with openwork pattern and lion heads
Craftsmanship & Period: This salon vessel was crafted in the late 19th century, during the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era) and Historicism periods. It was created under the influence of the Neo-Baroque style, when ornate, silver-plated table and boudoir accessories gained particular popularity in European townhouses and manor interiors, bringing plays of silver and light into the room.
Material & Technique: The vessel is a solid metal casting, coated with high-quality, thick silver plating. Its body is an exquisite artist’s work — the cylindrical form is entirely interwoven with a filigree, perforated (openwork) floral, cross, and nature band ornament, ensuring excellent light penetration and a textured structure. The lively design’s sides are adorned with two expressive oval medallions featuring sculptural lion heads and cascading floral garlands. The upper rim of the vessel is widely curved, crowned with a relief floral border, while the base rests stably on four cast, ornate Baroque-style feet with acanthus leaf and floral motifs.
Application & Interior Use: This medium and compact-sized antique silver-plated cachepot historically served as a luxurious cover for a flower pot, for ladies’ salon greenery, or as a standalone table centerpiece (centerpiece). Today, it serves excellently as an elegant vessel for floral arrangements, potpourri mixtures, or as a striking and authentic accessory on a mantelpiece, console, or nightstand.
Condition: The cachepot is in excellent antique condition with strong historical charm. The openwork metal frame and feet are completely firm and intact. The silver plating remains bright, and a naturally patinated, noble, and darker aged hue is visible in the relief recesses and interior of the vessel, maintaining the item’s authenticity and true connoisseur value. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
Belle Époque (Beautiful Era) Snapshot: Oscar Wilde slowly approached the window, where the afternoon London light slid across the heavy curtains and silver cutlery on the table. In the corner of the room, amidst fresh flower bouquets, stood a small, gleaming metal silhouette, its openwork pattern playing with the sunbeams and casting delicate webs of shadow on the dark wood surface. He did not touch the object, merely observed how the forms of two lion masks froze in the darkness beneath the garland of vines, as if telling of some ancient and serene manor garden. The cool smoothness of the silver surface and the warm spirit of the room brought a cozy satisfaction to the boudoir, and this anticipation remained in the salon long after the last rays of light had completely faded.
