Antique porcelain cup and saucer – Louis XVI style

A Boudoir Era Snapshot, Princesse de Lamballe:

The serene quiet of the afternoon envelops a small garden pavilion, where sunbeams playfully dance on the fringes of brocade curtains, illuminating the soft pastel cushions of armchairs. Resting on a small, intricately carved console table are two white objects, their flawless surfaces adorned with delicate blue garlands painted by a fine brush, reminiscent of freshly picked wildflower posies. Slender, aristocratic fingers gently grasp the unusually sculpted, gold-accented handle, lifting the vessel to the light like a fragile work of art.

A sweet aroma of amber and freshly brewed hot chocolate wafts through the air, flowing from the thin rims of the porcelain, creating a cozy and tranquil atmosphere. These blue ribbons, tied in flawless knots, and the gentle floral motifs embody the era’s characteristic Neoclassical love for nature and its serene grandeur. The sun slowly descends, leaving bright golden reflections on the white background of the saucer, which holds the former splendor and elusive elegance of the court.

Craftsmanship & Period The item was crafted in the first half of the 20th century as an exquisite and historically accurate reproduction of Neoclassical royal porcelain from the second half of the 18th century (Louis XVI period), fully preserving the aesthetic ideals and purity of line of that era.

Maker / Signature / Mark The base of the item bears a handwritten inscription in “Dessiné et peint entièrement a la main par G. Tallec a Paris France” (Entirely drawn and painted by hand by G. Tallec in Paris, France). This is complemented by a blue, hand-drawn artist’s stamp and the inscription “Made in France”, attesting to the exclusive and individual craftsmanship of a Parisian master.

Rarity & Significance The main artistic value of the set lies in the impeccable handiwork of master G. Tallec. The painting adheres to strict classical canons – delicate, symmetrical ribbon knots (noeuds de ruban), from which hang elegantly intertwined blue floral garlands and rosettes. The expressive, relief, and sculptural handle with gold accents and the thin gold trim along the rims of the vessels lend the item a noble, expensive appearance.

Application & Interior Use This exquisite demitasse/espresso-sized cup is an ideal exhibit for serious porcelain collections or as a luxurious decorative accent in classical, Neoclassical, and Chateau style interiors. It will look magnificent on precious metal trays or in glass display cabinets.

Condition The porcelain is in excellent historical and visual condition – without cracks, chips, hairlines, or any attempts at restoration. The hand-painted blue ornamentation remains impeccably vibrant and intact, and the gilding on the rim and the relief handle is bright, with no signs of wear. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
