Brass mirror tray with floral handles
Literary snapshot, Marcel Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time” — Gilberte Swann: The afternoon light in the Parisian apartment’s boudoir slowly slid across the dressing table, which smelled of freshly bloomed hydrangeas, powder, and expensive essences in turquoise bottles. At the very center of the table, between silver hairbrushes and crystal flacons, lay an oval mirror surface that, like a calm water mirror, quietly captured and doubled the luxury of the room. Two delicate, gilded brass handles stood at its edges, in whose curves the master’s hand had placed eternally frozen, magnificent roses and garlands of leaves.
She slowly extended her fingers to pick up her favorite perfume bottle, and her gaze lingered for a moment on the clear reflection provided by the tray’s base. The mirror’s clear glass, framed in cool and shiny metal, refracted and reflected the flower vase placed on the table, creating a strange, airy, and deep illusion, as if all her treasures were floating above a flood of light. This small boudoir accessory did not just hold objects — it guarded all the delicate, elusive morning rituals of Parisian high society ladies, where every movement had to be a flawless art.
The gilded floral embellishments at both ends of the handles rose above the glass like two small, protective crowns, while the tray’s base rested securely on four small, profiled brass legs. This item embodied that casual, courtly charm, where even the simplest everyday object had to transform into an aesthetic pleasure. Every drop of perfume and every jewel that touched this surface instantly acquired a completely different — more noble and historical — brilliance.
This elegant and visually stunning brass mirror tray is an excellent example of boudoir and ladies’ room aesthetics, designed in the tradition of classical Louis XV (Louis XV) and Rococo style design. The tray has a distinctive oval shape and a thick, high-quality mirror glass base, which provides a clear reflection and visually doubles the beauty of the objects placed on it.
Design and Execution The main splendor of the tray is its two massive, high-quality cast brass handles. They are intricately crafted in a romantic floral motif, depicting relief rosebuds, fully bloomed flowers, and winding garlands of leaves that gracefully embrace the tray’s curved edges. The entire construction rests on four small, stubby, and profiled brass legs with screw fixings in the base, which not only ensure stability and protect furniture surfaces from scratches but also elevate the tray, giving it additional lightness.
Application With its 50 cm length, this tray is an ideal and presentable size for a dressing table, bedroom dresser, or bathroom shelf. It is perfectly suited for displaying expensive perfume bottles, crystal powder boxes, jewelry, or antique silverware, transforming the everyday cosmetic area into a luxurious interior focal point.
Condition The tray is in excellent vintage condition. The mirror glass is clean, clear, and free of cracks or significant scratches. The brass handles and legs are firmly fixed, with a pleasant, warm golden sheen and only minimal, unobtrusive patina created by time, which only enhances the authentic vintage charm of the furniture and accessory. The base’s backing is intact and well-maintained. The overall visual condition is fully reflected in the photographs.
