Exquisite Armchair with Tapestry and Armrests — Louis XVI Style

A snapshot from the Classicism era, Isabelle d’Orléans:

Behind the tall salon windows, the morning light slowly dawns, casting soft, warm shadows on the smooth parquet floor. In the corner of the room, three delicate pieces rest peacefully, their oval backrest contours and ivory-coloured frames bearing gilded reflections from the upper floral carving. Delicate fingers lightly touch the textured, densely woven fabric, where bouquets of pink roses and wildflowers bloom on a dusky blue background within cartouche frames. Slender, fluted support columns taper downwards, creating perfect symmetry in the morning tranquility. The air is filled with the warm breath of freshly brewed coffee and powdered wigs, while sunbeams glint upon the soft cushions of the armrests, bringing the serene elegance of bygone days of the court into the room.

Craftsmanship & Period

The furniture was crafted in the mid-20th century in France. It was created as a high-quality and delicate reproduction of a historical style, precisely and with great respect for tradition, following the canons of neoclassical furniture from the second half of the 18th century (Louis XVI period).

Maker / Signature / Mark

No direct manufacturer’s stamps have been preserved on the wooden frames, but the fine wood profiling, the precise fluting (grooving) cut, and the high-quality fabric upholstery with brass nail trim clearly attest to the work of a professional furniture workshop.

Rarity & Significance

The main value of the chair lies in its harmonious proportions and textile finish. The oval medallion backrest (dossier à médaillon) and the seat are covered with a beautiful, expressive floral tapestry in dusky blue and pink tones. The wooden frame is painted in a soft ivory colour with gilded wood carvings and a decorative rose knot on the crest of the backrest. The legs are designed in the classic straight, fluted (grooved) form with rosettes at the corners.

Application & Interior Use

This armchair will serve as a magnificent and aristocratic accent in any classic, neoclassical, or Chateau style living room, reception hall, or dressing table. It is possible to purchase either a single chair or the entire ensemble of three pieces.

Condition

The furniture is in excellent historical and visual condition. The wooden frame and slender legs are completely stable and firm. The tapestry fabric is clean, strong, and without wear. The spring and webbing support for the upholstery is firm and comfortable. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
