🏛️ PERIOD, ARTISTIC STYLE, ERA
This grand furniture ensemble belongs to the culminating period of Second Empire and Neo-Rococo — a time when the finest interiors were conceived as theatrical stages, in which each piece of furniture played its role with a precision and refinement that no subsequent period of production could replicate.
The construction is tripartite and architectural: a massive lower body (corps bas) with three lockable doors and two drawer sections beneath the green marble top; a central upper section with a bowed mirror-glass fronton crowned by a bronze rocaille sculptural mount; and two flanking upper display cabinets (vitrines latérales) with faceted glass panels, mirrored backs, and glass shelves. The ensemble creates a rhythmically articulated silhouette — the central bowed mirrored mass flanked by two symmetrical side towers — the classic Second Empire meuble de réception composition.
The entire veneer surface is the most refined ronce de noyer (burr walnut) with a hypnotic swirling figure — each panel carefully selected so that the grain of paired panels mirrors (book-matched). Darker filet stringing delineates panel outlines, reinforcing the geometric elegance. The corner columns are rounded tambour type, veneered throughout.
The bronze mounts (montures de bronze) are generous and of high quality: large rocaille and foliate handle escutcheon plates on all doors and drawers, chutes (corner mounts) on the columns with acanthus leaf motifs, sabots (foot shoes) on the Corinthian-type base legs, and the central fronton crowning element — a bronze sculptural mount with bird, fruit, and rocaille scrolls.
The marble — green with white veining (Vert de mer or similar) — cool, sumptuous, a classic counterpoint to the warm wood tone.

⚜️ MAKER AND MANUFACTURER’S MARK
No maker’s mark is visible. The construction, veneer quality, extent of , and marble type point with considerable confidence to France — most likely Paris or the Lyon region. This type of meuble de salon in ronce de noyer veneers with green marble and abundant was the speciality of the highest-class Parisian ébénistes, who exported to the Imperial court, Eastern European aristocracy, and luxury residences throughout the Mediterranean. Furniture of this type appeared at the World Expositions of 1867 and 1878 as the highest demonstration of decorative arts achievement.
