This refined lady’s dressing table — of the coiffeuse type — belongs to the most elegant artistic legacy of the Belle Époque. Created during the period when haute bourgeoisie revived the graceful forms of Louis XV, enriching them with Historicist and early Art Nouveau decorative elements, this piece stands at precisely that moment when the rocaille curve still held its elegance, while the new marqueterie floral motifs had already introduced a lighter, more romantic ornamental language. The table’s construction is tripartite — a lower bombé body with one wide drawer and cabriole legs with bronze sabots, a middle shelf tier with three small drawers framed in parquetry veneer borders, and an upper gallery with a richly profiled cresting in which a rotating oval psyché-type mirror is centrally set. The frame profiling — two-toned: pale noyer (walnut) with a darker filet border — is a hallmark of Parisian ébénisterie of the highest order.

Particularly outstanding are the marqueterie floral bouquets — likely roses or peonies — decorating both the side panels of the upper gallery and the front of the lower drawer. These motifs are not painted but cut and inlaid as veneer intarsia — a time-consuming and demanding technique attesting to exceptional artisanal skill.
