The evening sun slowly sets behind the palace windows, casting long, warm shadows across the parquet floor and heavy brocade curtains. In the corner of the room, resting quietly next to the blazing fireplace, shines a voluminous, curved object, its polished wood warming from the proximity of the fire and reflecting the soft glow of the flames. Slender, ring-adorned fingers lightly glide over the cool, reddish-brown stone slab, its pattern resembling autumn leaf swirls in a forest lake.

The air is filled with the scent of expensive powder, freshly extinguished stearin candles, and warming wax, mingling with the serene peace that pervades the room. The barely perceptible rustle of a silk dress echoes against the floral motifs masterfully incorporated into the wood marquetry and the exquisite bronze figures of women’s faces on the corners of the body. This form, where every curve speaks of centuries-old elegance, becomes a quiet refuge and a serene witness to evening reflections in the palace’s silence.

This exquisite commode was made in France in the mid-20th century in the Louis XV style aesthetic, with high precision recreating the classic forms of 18th-century Rococo. The commode’s shape is characterized by a distinctive double curvature of the front and side panels (bombe), demanding the highest level of joinery craftsmanship. The fronts of the two drawers are adorned with intricate figural and floral marquetry from precious woods, depicting bouquets of roses and rare portraits of women in cartouches.

The commode’s corners and curved legs are decorated with gilded bronze mounts depicting women’s faces and acanthus leaves. The structure is crowned by an original solid marble slab in a warm, pinkish-brown tone with a figured, worked edge. The furniture is in excellent antique and functional condition. The sturdy wooden frame is completely stable. The exquisite marquetry and shellac polish are preserved at a high level. The natural marble surface is monolithic, without cracks, chips, or seams.
