Luxurious Bronze Candelabrum for Nine Candles with Cherub Figure — Baroque Style
An exquisite and unusually magnificent cast metal art piece (bronze cherub candelabra for nine candles), created as a representative interior accent. This multi-branched candelabrum is designed in the dynamic and majestic aesthetic of the Baroque style, where every detail flows and reaches into space with a Dionysian flair. The central compositional support of the piece is a masterfully crafted, full-figure angel—a youthful (cherub) figure, with two smaller candle sockets integrated into its raised hands. In total, the candelabrum has nine candle places, arranged on two levels on dynamically curved, fluted branches, adorned with relief acanthus leaves and floral rosettes. The massive, domed base and the central baluster urn are covered with a fine, dense band of plant ornamentation, ensuring perfect stability and a noble visual overall impression.
Period of Manufacture Manufactured in the second half of the 19th century or at the turn of the century, during the Historicism period, when the monumental artistic forms of the earlier Baroque and Rococo styles were revived with great enthusiasm throughout Europe.
Manufacturer / Signature / Mark The candelabrum was created using traditional and high-quality decorative bronze casting methods. As can be seen in the close-up of the interior of the base, the piece is made without a visible manufacturer’s mark, indicating an individual artist’s casting or a commission from a specialized bronze workshop for noble salon interiors.
Rarity and Significance Multi-branched candelabra with nine candles, arranged in such a complex two-level architectural composition, are a relatively rare and highly valued find. The central figure—the (cherub)—adds particular value, with its anatomical details and raised hands attesting to the sculptor’s exceptional craftsmanship and sense of plasticity in metal.
Application The candelabrum is ideally suited as a centerpiece for a festive banquet table, as well as for placement on a massive mantelpiece, console, or sideboard. When all nine candles are lit, the light of the flames naturally refracts through the bronze reliefs, creating an inimitable atmosphere of a historical salon and aristocratic home.
Condition The candelabrum is in excellent technical and visual condition. The heavy bronze construction is completely firm and stable, its elements are tightly and correctly joined. The metal surface has retained its natural, noble golden sheen with a pleasant, soft patina of age in the deeper areas of the relief, which highlights the plasticity of the sculptures and leaves. The candle sockets and drip pans are intact, without damage. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
A Snapshot from the Baroque Era: Giuseppe Verdi slowly rises from his work desk and approaches the window, beyond which the afternoon sunbeams begin to sink into the depths of the salon. Among open scores and dahlias in a vase, a golden surface gleams brightly, embracing the noble form raised on the massive urn. His fingers lightly trace the volutes of acanthus leaves, feeling the weight and smoothness of the cool metal, while the central, small angel with raised hands seems to capture the silence of the room. Quietly and calmly, the nine levels of branches cast graceful shadows on the wall and painted tapestries, creating a complete harmony of creative light in the space. As the first reflections of the flames begin to dance on the bronze bands, the composer is overcome by an unshakable moment of peace and artistic satisfaction before the evening rehearsal.
