Luxurious two-seater salon sofa in bluish tones — Louis XV Rococo style

This artistically magnificent, cozy, and proportionally flawless two-seater salon sofa (antique Louis XV rococo style gilded two seater sofa) is a masterpiece of top-class European furniture art, embodying the best traditions of the late Rococo or Louis XV style of the royal golden age. The furniture frame is a meticulous and plastic work of art — the solid wood frame is formed in flowing, boldly curved lines, defying rigid symmetry. The top of the backrest, the side armrests, and the bottom edge are adorned with delicate, spatially carved rosebud motifs, lush leaf garlands, and asymmetrical rocaille motifs. The entire wooden structure is covered in noble gilding, where the reddish base tone (bolus) is subtly perceptible in the deeper grooves and on the fluted legs, creating a pleasant depth of time and a serene shimmer.

The furniture is given special luxury and pure interior substance by the exclusive, bluish-turquoise and silvery-beige damask fabric upholstery. The fabric has a distinct silk sheen and features a large-scale historical damask floral ornament woven into it, which perfectly matches the motifs of the wooden frame. The finishing edges around the entire perimeter (including the back) are professionally finished with a delicate, matching bluish and silver thread decorative braided ribbon. The set includes two original decorative cushions made of the same fabric, adorned with luxurious, bluish-turquoise tassel balls (tassels). The back of the sofa is fully upholstered with the same expensive damask fabric, allowing this piece of furniture to be placed even in the center of a room as a freestanding work of art. Historically, intimate lady’s sofas or love seats of this size served as the most beloved accents in aristocratic salons and boudoirs for ladies’ tea times.

Period of Manufacture Dated to the mid-20th century, approximately the 1950s–1960s, when a culture of high-quality and technically perfect revival of historical styles (revival) flourished in leading and Italian furniture workshops, creating exclusive furniture series for the homes of the urban elite by individual order.

Manufacturer / Signature / Stamp The sofa is a top-class handmade piece from a specialized art furniture workshop. The robustness of the spring system, the sharpness of the wood carvings, and the iron precision of the fabric seams, aligning the large pattern on the seat and backrest, indicate an exceptional level of craftsmanship not found in mass-produced items.

Rarity and Significance The greatest value of this exhibit lies in its impeccable structural integrity and the purity of the expensive damask fabric, both on the front and the back. Gilded salon sofas have often suffered from improper reupholstery or lost their cushions over time, but this specimen, with its preserved fabric sheen and turquoise tassels, is an immediately usable and highly valued find for collectors.

Application The sofa will serve as a stunning, gallant visual and functional centerpiece in a living room, a spacious bedroom, a hallway, or a representative ladies’ boudoir. It instantly lends the room lightness, theatrical flair, and substance, pairing perfectly with antique mirrors and classical historical elements.

Condition Excellent antique condition. The wooden frame and leg structure are completely firm, stable, and safe for sitting. The gilding has retained its noble sheen with a pleasant patina of age. The damask fabric is completely clean, firm, without signs of wear, stains, or fading. Both cushions are in excellent condition and the tassels are intact. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs (IMG_9314-2.jpeg, IMG_9325.jpeg, IMG_9346-1.jpeg).

Snapshot of literary dialogue: In the solemn and quiet salon of a Parisian townhouse at the beginning of the 20th century, where serene afternoon sunlight slowly streams through the windows, an atmosphere of refined art and high society prevails. Next to the large gilded mirror on the wall, this two-seater salon sofa unexpectedly glows with warmth and theatricality, its silky turquoise damask fabric and plastic rose wood carvings boldly defying the room’s serious substance. The fashion historian and aesthete Alexander, slowly arranging his sketches of historical costumes and stroking the tassels of the sofa’s matching cushion, momentarily pauses his passionate narrative about court fashion and gazes at the flowing lines of the frame, which so wonderfully harmonize with the spring atmosphere prevailing in the room. The noble shimmer of the gilding and the gentle comfort of the seat bring a true cult of absolute beauty and aristocratic charm into the thick salon walls, completely erasing the boundaries between the pages of historical design books and the immortal elegance of this piece of furniture art.
