Antique porcelain tureen with gold initials in Neo-Rococo style (Antique Porcelain Tureen)
A snapshot from the Belle Époque era, Marcel Proust: In the grand, dimly lit Parisian dining room, heavy silk curtains drawing in the scent of freshly cut peonies and aged wood, servants quietly finished setting the table for dinner. He stood slightly apart, watching the candlelight play upon the snow-white, lustrous ceramic surface, reflecting the golden sheen of the ornate, curved handles and the finely etched initials.
This moment, this vessel with its perfect form and quiet elegance, suddenly brought back memories of childhood Sundays in Illiers, where family lunches felt like an endless, ritualistic solemnity. He closed his eyes, surrendering to this unexpected flow of memories, triggered by a simple yet flawless masterpiece, its gilded rim now seeming like a delicate, shimmering border between the present and eternity.
Introduction This exquisite porcelain tureen (a vessel for serving soup or sauces with a lid) is a magnificent example of Golden Age ceramic art, created by the renowned Hache, Jullien & Cie manufactory from Vierzon. It embodies absolute elegance and the highest standards of aristocratic table culture.
Period of Manufacture Late 19th century (post-1878), France.
Manufacturer and Signature The base of the tureen clearly displays the black factory mark “HACHE, JULLIEN & Cie, VIERZON, PARIS”, complemented by the honorable inscription “1878 MEDE D’OR PARIS” – a testament to winning the Gold Medal at the prestigious Paris World Exhibition.
Design and Decor The vessel is crafted from the highest quality snow-white porcelain. Its design is dominated by an exquisite, violet-pink floral and foliate garland border, closely framed by fine gold lines. The lid and sides of the tureen are adorned with a beautiful, hand-painted calligraphic monogram (initials). The substantial, relief-molded acanthus leaf handles, richly gilded, add a striking visual impact, reflecting the finest traditions of the Neo-Rococo style.
Application This tureen is ideally suited as an exclusive centerpiece for a festive table (centerpiece). It can serve its direct purpose of presenting exquisite dishes, or stand alone as a luxurious decorative item in a classic dining room or living room.
Condition Very good antique condition, commensurate with the age of the item. The porcelain is free from cracks or chips. The gilding on the handles shows minor, natural wear consistent with age, which only enhances the authentic, historical character of the piece. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
