The sculpture was created during the flourishing Belle Époque — a period when France lived with an incredible sense of aesthetic perfection. MANUFACTURER AND MANUFACTURER’S STAMP

Mathurin Moreau (1822–1912) — one of the most outstanding sculptors of the 19th century, Prix de Rome laureate, Légion d’honneur knight. His works were regularly exhibited at the Salon de Paris and won top awards. The Moreau family was a whole dynasty of sculptors — a father and four sons, each with their own achievements, but Mathurin remained the undisputed patriarch and artistic center of the family.

The signature “Moreau Math.” is engraved directly on the rim of the bronze base — authentic, clearly legible, with no signs of reworking. An original metal plaque with the inscription “MUSIQUE / Math. MOREAU” is attached to the wooden base — such double identification is a typical set of characteristics of high-quality 19th-century sculpture. The wooden base — square, ebonized, with four legs — is original and dates from the same era.
