Men’s talk in the hunting lodge, Ernest Hemingway: In the hunting hall of his friend’s country estate, where the air was steeped in the aromas of fireplace smoke, leather armchairs, and aged cognac, the writer Ernest Hemingway rested after a long day in the woods. On the heavy oak table, next to discarded leather gloves and hunting trophies, sat «Limoges» porcelain plates. The snacks served on them were already gone, but his gaze lingered on the delicate drawings—the roe deer, pheasants, and a running hare seemed to have stepped right out of his own adventure stories.

The deep burgundy border and rich gold filigree gave the plates that masculine and aristocratic elegance perfectly suited for a classic hunting club. These dishes were not mere decorations; they were storytellers. Each image served as a starting point for a new conversation about nature, survival, and the beauty hidden in the forest’s silence. For Hemingway, who valued authenticity, this exquisite masterpiece embodied the perfect balance between the ruggedness of nature and man-made luxury.

These four small plates are a classic example of «Limoges» porcelain. The undersides bear the stamps «LIMOGES FRANCE» and «PORCELAINES D’ART VINCENT LIMOGES», confirming their high quality and mid-20th-century origin. Decorative game plates like these were highly popular in Europe, bringing elements of nature into refined dining rooms.

The design features a striking color contrast and detailed drawings. In the center of each plate, on a white background, is a realistic forest fauna motif—roe deer, a pheasant with a hen, a hare in a winter landscape, and a grouse. The borders are decorated with a deep and rich burgundy color, overlaid with a luxurious, filigree gold lace and acanthus leaf ornament.

These plates (19 cm in diameter) are ideally suited for serving appetizers or desserts at a rustic dinner or hunting banquet. They also make wonderful decorative elements (hung on the wall or placed in a cabinet) for a hunting lodge, country manor, or a classic gentleman’s study. Excellent vintage condition. The porcelain has no breaks, cracks, or chips. The colors in the central motifs, the burgundy border, and the gilding are well preserved. There are only very minimal, barely noticeable signs of natural use. The condition of the item is fully reflected in the photographs.
