is a <strong>Louis XV<\/strong> (Rococo) work in <strong>walnut<\/strong>, made in the <strong>19th century<\/strong>. The curved back and rail are adorned with rich <em>rocaille<\/em> carving \u2014 a shell (<em>coquille<\/em>) and acanthus motif at the crest, carved flowers and volutes on the rail \u2014 while flowing cabriole legs complete the typical Rococo silhouette. The special richness of these <strong><\/strong> is the hand-embroidered wool tapestry (<em>petit point<\/em>) with a large pink flower amid green foliage on a cream ground, framed by fine nail-head trim. The scent of freshly cut lilac still lingered in the room, and beside her a pale form took shape \u2014 a curved outline and a carved crest, where acanthus leaves seemed to grow into real foliage. Her fingers touched the warm, soft wool, where beneath the needle a pink flower was slowly blooming \u2014 the same as bloomed beyond the window. In that quiet morning moment, the border between garden and embroidery briefly dissolved, and she felt the quiet joy of a thing made by her own hands.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving Louis XV chairs in a pair, with original hand-embroidered tapestry, are especially prized \u2014 the embroidery of each chair is unique.
