hunting pose \u2014 with finely engraved feather texture, a sharp beak and tense talons gripping the wooden bough. The <strong><\/strong> belongs to the tradition of Historicism and <em>animalier<\/em> decorative sculpture, the school of animal representation that flourished in Europe in the nineteenth century and continued into the twentieth. The eagle, as a symbol of strength, freedom and power, is one of the oldest and most noble motifs in decorative art.<\/p>\n<p><em>Animalier snapshot:<\/em> Antoine-Louis Barye <em>(Antoine-Louis Barye)<\/em> paused at the edge of the menagerie in the Paris Jardin des Plantes.
