Ce somptueux et très lourd chevalet de présentation (hauteur 57 cm) en bronze d’art et alliage cuivreux est une pièce de maîtrise du style Historicisme (Néo-Renaissance, vers 1890–1905). Élevé, son dossier déploie une magnifique sculpture en fort relief figurant deux amours ou putti ailés entièrement sculptés en ronde-bosse (l’un sonnant de la trompe, l’autre jouant de la luth), encadrant un superbe maskeron de nymphe surmonté d’un calice d’apparat aux oiseaux héraldiques. Les montants rectangulaires de la structure sont entièrement ornés dans la technique complexe de l’émail champlevé aux décors d’écailles et de rinceaux gris argenté et sombres. Le tablier inférieur ajouré présente un cartouche baroque à médaillon d’ange ailé en relief, soutenu par deux puissants pieds en griffes de monstres. Sa béquille arrière robuste intègre une charnière d’origine, offrant une stabilité parfaite.

*Instantané de la Belle Époque : Dans sa résidence parisienne, le célèbre collectionneur et mécène Savva Mamontov sirotait lentement son café du matin… laissant son regard parcourir le salon.
