Century<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">This charming <strong>childrens armchair<\/strong> is a work of the <strong>Rococo Revival<\/strong> in <strong>walnut<\/strong>, where the undulating grace of the Louis XV era is shrunk to a sweet, intimate scale. The shaped <em>cartouche<\/em> back is crowned by a small <strong>rocaille carving<\/strong> \u2014 the work of a woodcarver. The upholstery is a sumptuous <strong>red and gold jacquard<\/strong> with a lattice, laurel-wreath, and garland pattern, outlined by a row of decorative bronzed nails; the padded cuff armrests and graceful <strong>cabriole legs<\/strong> echo the silhouette of full-size salon chairs in miniature. A <strong>childrens armchair<\/strong> like this was made with the same care as its grown counterparts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Dimensions: height 68 cm, width 48 cm, seat depth [&#8230;] cm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The chair was made in the <strong>second half of the 19th century<\/strong>, when <strong>Rococo Revival<\/strong> flourished across Europe \u2014 a return to the undulating, asymmetrical forms of the Louis XV era. Small armchairs of this period were made both for children and as decorative salon objects \u2014 little masterpieces in which every detail of the full-size chair is repeated at reduced scale with equal care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"><em>Rococo Revival snapshot:<\/em> the writer George Sand (<em>George Sand<\/em>) bent for a moment over the small chair by the window at Nohant, where her daughter had left a doll \u2014 her fingertips touched the golden coolness of the jacquard, red as the hue of wine in the evening fire. Through the window drifted the scent of the garden and the distant bark of a dog. The tiny form waited quietly, almost a toy in scale yet no less noble, and she smiled, for it spoke of a childhood that loves beautiful things as seriously as adults do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The chair is in good, stable antique condition with a natural patina to the wood; the jacquard upholstery survives with age-appropriate wear. The condition is fully reflected in the photographs.
