Brass Pricket Candlestick with Cherub Masks \u2014 Baroque Altar Style<\/strong><\/p>\n

This imposing and very heavy tall brass pricket candlestick<\/strong> is executed in the lavish vocabulary of the Baroque<\/strong> style. It is an altar candlestick of the pricket<\/em> type \u2014 with a wide round dish and a central spike for securing a large church candle. The shaft is built on two rhythms: an upper fluted, feather-bundle-like section, and a brilliant barley-twist<\/strong> and pierced acanthus<\/strong> scrollwork at the centre and base that sets up a play of light and shadow in the metal. As a true brass pricket candlestick<\/strong>, it was made to catch and return candlelight.<\/p>\n

The stand rests on a massive tripod with three cherub<\/strong> masks (angel faces) among acanthus volutes, raised on lion-paw feet \u2014 a typical Baroque motif uniting the heavenly and the earthly. The brass\/bronze<\/strong> is richly chased by a clear craftsman’s hand; the metal has acquired a warm, deep patina.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 Baroque snapshot:<\/strong> Before early Mass in Rome the young Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Gian Lorenzo Bernini<\/em>) lingered in the empty church, where the morning light had only just begun to press through the high windows. He touched the cold, twisted surface and followed the acanthus scrolls upward with a finger \u2014 to the place where a small, smiling child’s face emerged from the metal. The wax was not yet lit, but he already saw how the flame above would reflect in the gold and how the whole form would catch fire. Somewhere behind the altar came footsteps; he drew back his hand and hurried away.<\/p>\n

The candlestick dates to the 19th \u2013 early 20th century, made in the spirit of the historic Baroque<\/strong> style. It is a striking sacral and decorative piece \u2014 as an altar or mantel candlestick, as a floor candlestick by an entrance or stair, or as a sculptural accent in an interior. Its great height and weight bring solemnity to a room. Condition is good and consistent with age; the metal has a natural patina. The condition is fully reflected in the photographs.<\/p>\n

Hoher bronzener Altarleuchter mit Cherub-Maskarons \u2014 im Barockstil<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ein imposanter und sehr schwerer hoher Bronzeleuchter, ausgef\u00fchrt in der \u00fcppigen Sprache des Barock<\/strong>. Es ist ein Altarleuchter vom Typ pricket<\/em> \u2014 mit breiter runder Schale und einem zentralen Dorn zum Befestigen einer gro\u00dfen Kirchenkerze. Der Schaft ist auf zwei Rhythmen aufgebaut: oben ein kannelierter, einem Federb\u00fcndel \u00e4hnlicher Abschnitt, in der Mitte und unten ein gl\u00e4nzendes gedrehtes (barley-twist<\/em>) und durchbrochenes Akanthus<\/strong>-Rankenwerk, das im Metall ein Spiel von Licht und Schatten erzeugt.<\/p>\n

Der St\u00e4nder ruht auf einem massiven Dreifu\u00df mit drei Cherub<\/strong>-Maskarons (Engelsgesichtern) zwischen Akanthusvoluten, auf L\u00f6wentatzenf\u00fc\u00dfen \u2014 ein typisches Barockmotiv, das Himmlisches und Irdisches verbindet. Das Messing\/Bronze<\/strong> ist von erkennbarer Meisterhand reich ziseliert; das Metall hat eine warme, tiefe Patina angenommen.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea Momentaufnahme der Barockzeit:<\/strong> Vor der fr\u00fchen Messe in Rom verweilte der junge Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Gian Lorenzo Bernini<\/em>) in der leeren Kirche, wo das Morgenlicht gerade erst durch die hohen Fenster zu dringen begann. Er ber\u00fchrte die kalte, gedrehte Oberfl\u00e4che und folgte mit dem Finger den Akanthusranken nach oben \u2014 bis zu der Stelle, wo ein kleines, l\u00e4chelndes Kindergesicht aus dem Metall hervortrat. Der Leuchter datiert ins 19. \u2013 fr\u00fche 20. Jahrhundert, gefertigt im Geist des historischen Barockstils<\/strong>. Er ist ein eindrucksvolles sakrales und dekoratives St\u00fcck \u2014 als Altar- oder Kaminleuchter, als Bodenleuchter an einem Eingang oder einer Treppe oder als skulpturaler Akzent im Interieur. Seine gro\u00dfe H\u00f6he und sein Gewicht verleihen einem Raum Feierlichkeit. Zustand gut und altersgem\u00e4\u00df; das Metall hat eine nat\u00fcrliche Patina. Der Zustand ist auf den Fotografien vollst\u00e4ndig wiedergegeben.<\/p>\n

Haut chandelier d’autel en bronze \u00e0 mascarons de ch\u00e9rubins \u2014 de style baroque<\/strong><\/p>\n

Un imposant et tr\u00e8s lourd haut chandelier en bronze, ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 dans le vocabulaire fastueux du style baroque<\/strong>. C’est un chandelier d’autel de type pricket<\/em> \u2014 avec une large coupe ronde et une pointe centrale pour fixer un grand cierge d’\u00e9glise. Le f\u00fbt est construit sur deux rythmes : en haut une section cannel\u00e9e semblable \u00e0 un faisceau de plumes, et au centre et en bas un brillant d\u00e9cor torsad\u00e9 (barley-twist<\/em>) et ajour\u00e9 de rinceaux d’acanthe<\/strong> qui cr\u00e9e dans le m\u00e9tal un jeu d’ombre et de lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

Le support repose sur un massif tr\u00e9pied \u00e0 trois mascarons de ch\u00e9rubins<\/strong> (visages d’anges) parmi des volutes d’acanthe, pos\u00e9 sur des pieds en pattes de lion \u2014 un motif baroque typique unissant le c\u00e9leste et le terrestre. Le laiton\/bronze<\/strong> est richement cisel\u00e9 d’une main de ma\u00eetre manifeste ; le m\u00e9tal a acquis une patine chaude et profonde.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7 Instantan\u00e9 de l’\u00e9poque baroque :<\/strong> Avant la messe matinale \u00e0 Rome, le jeune Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Gian Lorenzo Bernini<\/em>) s’\u00e9tait attard\u00e9 dans l’\u00e9glise d\u00e9serte, o\u00f9 la lumi\u00e8re du matin commen\u00e7ait \u00e0 peine \u00e0 percer par les hautes fen\u00eatres. Il toucha la surface froide et torsad\u00e9e et suivit du doigt les rinceaux d’acanthe vers le haut \u2014 jusqu’\u00e0 l’endroit o\u00f9 un petit visage d’enfant souriant \u00e9mergeait du m\u00e9tal. La cire n’\u00e9tait pas encore allum\u00e9e, mais il voyait d\u00e9j\u00e0 comment la flamme, en haut, se refl\u00e9terait dans l’or et comment toute la forme s’embraserait. Quelque part derri\u00e8re l’autel r\u00e9sonn\u00e8rent des pas ; il retira sa main et se h\u00e2ta de partir.<\/p>\n

Le chandelier date du XIXe \u2013 d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 dans l’esprit du style baroque<\/strong> historique. C’est une pi\u00e8ce sacr\u00e9e et d\u00e9corative saisissante \u2014 comme chandelier d’autel ou de chemin\u00e9e, comme chandelier de sol pr\u00e8s d’une entr\u00e9e ou d’un escalier, ou comme accent sculptural dans un int\u00e9rieur. Sa grande hauteur et son poids apportent de la solennit\u00e9 \u00e0 une pi\u00e8ce. \u00c9tat bon et conforme \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge ; le m\u00e9tal pr\u00e9sente une patine naturelle.
