This impressive, nearly life-size bronze fountain<\/strong> depicts a young woman in antique drapery holding a pitcher \u2014 a water-bearer or spring nymph \u2014 standing on a base with a dolphin and acanthus leaves. The pitcher and base have water openings, so the figure serves both as a sculpture and as a bronze fountain<\/strong>. The work belongs to the Neoclassical tradition, drawing on antique and Belle \u00c9poque garden sculpture, when the figure of a woman with an urn or pitcher was one of the most beloved motifs in European parks, ch\u00e2teaux and bourgeois gardens of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.<\/p>\n
