The artistic style is Baroque<\/strong> \u2014 more precisely, its 19th-century Neo-Baroque<\/strong> revival, in which Historicism<\/strong> era craftsmen reinterpreted the 17th\u201318th century bombe<\/em> form, curved drawer fronts, and the burr walnut veneer tradition.<\/p>\n
Demi-lune<\/em> \u2014 the half-moon form \u2014 is one of the most refined architectural solutions in European furniture art. In this chest, the semicircular marble top corresponds precisely to the curved wooden body \u2014 a technically demanding and artistically accomplished achievement: each of the seven drawers is individually curved to follow the body’s half-moon form.<\/p>\n
The black ebonized stringing<\/em> around each drawer and along the body’s edges is a heritage of Louis XVI<\/strong> and early Biedermeier<\/strong> \u2014 it gives the flowing bombe<\/em> form a graphic discipline and elegance.<\/p>\n
