\u00a0Marble Pedestal Columns and Urns with Gilt Bronze Ormolu Mounts \u2014 Napoleon III Style<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This imposing pair of marble pedestal columns<\/strong> with matching urns is a commanding decorative ensemble, executed in deep black marble and lavishly dressed in gilt bronze<\/strong> (ormolu<\/em>). The design draws on the Napoleon III<\/strong> and Louis XVI<\/strong> vocabulary: severe, classically balanced forms enlivened by gently flowing garlands, acanthus friezes and fire-vase (cassolette<\/em>) masks set into the plinth faces. These marble pedestal columns<\/strong> carry every hallmark of grand neoclassical taste.<\/p>\n

Each of the marble pedestal columns<\/strong> rises from a stepped square base, its shaft framed by fluted and acanthus-cast gilt panels and closed top and bottom by heavy bronze mouldings and leaf wreaths. The black marble<\/strong> is shot through with natural white and grey veining, giving each piece its own pattern. The ovoid urns are wrapped in rocaille<\/em> and floral swags, with finely chased handles of wheat and foliage; an oves<\/em>-and-acanthus frieze forms the neck and foot, and a flame-shaped (flamme<\/em>) finial crowns each lid.<\/p>\n

Ein repr\u00e4sentatives Ensemble aus schwarzem Marmor<\/strong>: Zwei massive S\u00e4ulen tragen zwei passende Vasen-Urnen, alles reich mit vergoldeter Bronze<\/strong> (ormolu<\/em>) geschm\u00fcckt. Die \u00c4sthetik sch\u00f6pft aus dem Napoleon III.<\/strong> und Louis-XVI.<\/strong>-Stil \u2014 strenge, klassisch ausgewogene Formen, belebt durch sanft flie\u00dfende Girlanden, Akanthusfriese und Feuervasen-Masken (cassolette<\/em>) an den Sockelfl\u00e4chen.<\/p>\n

Jede S\u00e4ule erhebt sich \u00fcber einem gestuften quadratischen Sockel; der Schaft ist von kannelierten, mit Akanthus gegossenen Goldplatten gefasst und oben wie unten von schweren Bronzeprofilen und Blattkr\u00e4nzen abgeschlossen. Der Marmor zeigt ein tiefes Schwarz mit nat\u00fcrlicher wei\u00dfer und grauer \u00c4derung. Die eif\u00f6rmigen Urnen sind von rocaille<\/em> und Bl\u00fctengirlanden umzogen, mit fein ziselierten Henkeln aus \u00c4hren und Laub; ein Fries aus Akanthus und Oves<\/em> bildet Hals und Fu\u00df, und eine flammenf\u00f6rmige (flamme<\/em>) Bekr\u00f6nung schlie\u00dft jeden Deckel ab.<\/p>\n

Er sagte nichts \u2014 legte nur die Hand auf die glatte, k\u00fchle Fl\u00e4che und sp\u00fcrte, wie schwer das Schweigen war, das der Stein bewahrte.<\/p>\n

Sie sind ein vornehmer Akzent f\u00fcr Diele, Salon oder Treppenpodest \u2014 die S\u00e4ulen als Postament f\u00fcr Skulptur oder Vase oder als dekoratives Paar zusammen mit den Urnen. Un ensemble repr\u00e9sentatif en marbre noir<\/strong> : deux colonnes massives portent deux vases-urnes assortis, le tout richement orn\u00e9 de bronze dor\u00e9<\/strong> (ormolu<\/em>). L’esth\u00e9tique puise dans le vocabulaire Napol\u00e9on III<\/strong> et Louis XVI<\/strong> \u2014 formes s\u00e9v\u00e8res et classiquement \u00e9quilibr\u00e9es, anim\u00e9es par de souples guirlandes, des frises d’acanthe et des mascarons de vases \u00e0 feu (cassolette<\/em>) sur les faces des socles.<\/p>\n

Chaque colonne s’\u00e9l\u00e8ve sur une base carr\u00e9e \u00e0 gradins ; le f\u00fbt est encadr\u00e9 de plaques dor\u00e9es cannel\u00e9es et fondues d’acanthe, ferm\u00e9 en haut et en bas par de lourdes moulures de bronze et des couronnes de feuillage. Le marbre, d’un noir profond, est parcouru de veines blanches et grises naturelles. Les urnes ovo\u00efdes sont ceintes de rocaille<\/em> et de guirlandes fleuries, avec des anses finement cisel\u00e9es d’\u00e9pis et de feuillage ; une frise d’acanthe et d’oves<\/em> forme le col et le pied, et un fleuron en forme de flamme (flamme<\/em>) couronne chaque couvercle.<\/p>\n
