Oak Column Console Table with Six Columns \u2014 Neo-Renaissance Style<\/strong><\/p>\n

This imposing and very heavy oak column console<\/strong> is a pedestal-console whose form is governed by a pure architectural motif: a stepped, moulded rectangular top is carried by six round columns<\/strong> rising from a massive, stepped plinth. It speaks the language of Historicism<\/strong> and Neo-Renaissance<\/strong> taste \u2014 an era when furniture deliberately borrowed the vocabulary of classical and Renaissance architecture, bringing the temple and the palace into the living room. As an architectural piece, this oak column console<\/strong> turns structure itself into ornament.<\/p>\n

The columns are smooth, with plain Tuscan<\/strong>-type capitals and rounded bases \u2014 restrained, without excess ornament, the emphasis placed on proportion and the nobility of the material. The boards of the top and plinth show expressive oak<\/strong> graining and the characteristic medullary ray pattern that gives solid oak its depth and warm tone. The construction is firm, heavy and substantial \u2014 a piece built to serve for generations.<\/p>\n

The evening light picked out every annual ring in the oak as if on a sectional drawing. He ran a thumb along the rounded edge of a capital \u2014 the very form he had drawn a thousand times on paper now lay warm and tangible beneath his finger. Somewhere inside he smiled: even a small thing can carry the logic of a whole building.<\/p>\n

The console dates to the late 19th \u2013 early 20th century, the heyday of the Historicism \/ Neo-Renaissance<\/strong> style. It is a versatile statement piece \u2014 as a console against a wall in a hall or salon, as a plinth for sculpture, a vase or a bust, or as a striking accent in a library or study. Its massive, architectural form lends weight and seriousness to a room. Condition is good and consistent with age; solid oak with a natural patina and graining. The condition is fully reflected in the photographs.<\/p>\n

Eine imposante und sehr schwere Konsole aus Eiche<\/strong>, deren Form von einem reinen Architekturmotiv bestimmt wird: Eine profilierte, gestufte rechteckige Platte wird von sechs runden S\u00e4ulen<\/strong> getragen, die sich von einem massiven, stufig profilierten Sockel erheben. Es ist die Sprache des Historismus<\/strong> und der Neorenaissance<\/strong> \u2014 einer Epoche, in der M\u00f6bel bewusst die Sprache antiker und Renaissance-Architektur entliehen und Tempel und Palast in den Wohnraum holten.<\/p>\n

Die S\u00e4ulen sind glatt, mit schlichten Kapitellen toskanischer<\/strong> Art und gerundeten Basen \u2014 zur\u00fcckhaltend, ohne \u00fcberm\u00e4\u00dfigen Prunk, mit Betonung von Proportion und dem Adel des Materials. Die Bretter von Platte und Sockel zeigen eine ausdrucksstarke Eichen<\/strong>-Maserung und das charakteristische Spiegelbild, das massiver Eiche Tiefe und einen warmen Ton verleiht. Die Konstruktion ist fest, schwer und gediegen \u2014 ein St\u00fcck, das f\u00fcr Generationen gemacht ist.<\/p>\n

Sie ist ein vielseitiges Schaust\u00fcck \u2014 als Konsole an der Wand in Diele oder Salon, als Postament f\u00fcr Skulptur, Vase oder B\u00fcste oder als markanter Akzent in Bibliothek und Arbeitszimmer. Ihre massive, architektonische Form verleiht einem Raum Gewicht und Ernst. Zustand gut und altersgem\u00e4\u00df; massive Eiche mit nat\u00fcrlicher Patina und Maserung. Une imposante et tr\u00e8s lourde console-pi\u00e9destal en ch\u00eane<\/strong>, dont la forme est dict\u00e9e par un pur motif architectural : un plateau rectangulaire moulur\u00e9, \u00e0 degr\u00e9s, est port\u00e9 par six colonnes rondes<\/strong> s’\u00e9levant d’un socle massif et moulur\u00e9 en gradins. C’est le langage de l’historicisme<\/strong> et de la n\u00e9o-Renaissance<\/strong> \u2014 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 le mobilier empruntait d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment le vocabulaire de l’architecture antique et Renaissance, faisant entrer le temple et le palais dans le salon.<\/p>\n

Les colonnes sont lisses, \u00e0 chapiteaux simples de type toscan<\/strong> et \u00e0 bases arrondies \u2014 sobres, sans faste superflu, l’accent \u00e9tant mis sur la proportion et la noblesse du mat\u00e9riau. Les planches du plateau et du socle r\u00e9v\u00e8lent un veinage de ch\u00eane<\/strong> expressif et le rayon m\u00e9dullaire caract\u00e9ristique qui conf\u00e8re au ch\u00eane massif sa profondeur et son ton chaleureux.
